Castleblayney Hurling Club Notes 21st Nov 2022



50/50 Draw for November takes place on Friday 25th November in Sean’s Bar Castleblayney from 9pm. Hot food served on the night. All welcome . As a token of appreciation, all entrants into our 50-50 draw will be entered free of charge into the GAA National Draw 2023 with prizes up for grabs including a car, cash and All Ireland Finals package prizes. A big thank you to all those who continue to support us every month, it is much appreciated.


Club’s AGM took place on Friday 18th Nov in the Ash Room. At a well attended affair, there was plenty of silverware on display, the U-15’s triple success saw cups from the Táin Og, League and Championship while the Seniors had the League & Championship honours. The night saw Chairperson, Jimmy Lacey stand down after 5 years at the helm, for which he was congratulated and thanked. The following are the incoming officers for the year ahead: Chairperson Patrick McArdle, Secretary Sheila Forde, Assistant Secretary Catherine Duffy, Treasurer Benny Bolger, Ass Treasurer Noel McGuigan, PRO Mary Rafter, Development Officer Martin Rafter, Coaching Officer David Connolly, Co Board Representative Catherine Duffy, Registrar Natalie Noone, Children’s Officer Marisa Duffy, Players Rep Fergal Rafter, Oifigeach Cultúra David Connolly. Committee Members: Jarlath Denny, Hugh Cullen, Kevin Moloney, Eddie Heavin, Eimear McCarthy, Catriona McCarney, Mattie Martin, Mary McArdle & Jimmy Lacey.

A warm welcome was extended to the new members of the committee and sympathy was extended to all who had suffered bereavements during the year.


Castleblayney College well done to our club players who represented Castleblayney College in their Ulster Schools U13.5 hurling win against St Pat’s Dungannon last Wednesday at Tyrone Centre of Excellence. They progress to the next round. Also to the lads who played against St Aidan’s Cootehill in the Ulster Schools U19.5 competition at Cootehill Celtic GAA grounds last Fri. Keep it going lads.


Hurling Championship ‘All Star’ Champion 15 was announced at the weekend and sees the club secure ten out of the 15 places. Congrats to Brian Flanagan, Colin Merrick, Declan Hughes, Deaglan Crowe, Aaron Kenny, Fergal Rafter, Patrick Finnegan, Niall Garland, Brian McGuigan & Thomas Hughes. The Awards Night takes place in the Four Seasons Monaghan on Thursday 15th Dec.



Best wishes to the Faughs Ladies and management as they head to Ballyvourney for their next encounter in the All Ireland Club semi-final. After a comprehensive win against Belgium GAA last weekend we extend congratulations to them and every good wish for next Sunday. Onwards and upwards girls!!
