October 10th, 2022

Seniors: The Intermediate Championship semi-final was played out on Sunday last 9th October in Inniskeen, in what were awful conditions. Toome faced a confident Corduff team who were the  favourites for this match. However, the Toome lads were adamant that they had something to say and prove in this game. They came out with conviction, determination and grit in the opening 20-25 minutes of this match and played some of the best football on display all year. Toome went in at the interval with a deserving lead, 1:06 – 0:04. Following the interval, the conditions deteriorated further and we struggled to get any decisions of play, this afforded Corduff the opportunity to pick off scores and get back into this match and at the 59th minute the teams were level, 4 minutes of added time were announced and the lads tried to push on, William scored a great point and Toome were within touching distance of a final, however in the 66th minute Corduff converted another score and we were headed for extra time. FT Score: 1:09 – 0:12. Both teams were now pulling from the reserve tanks at this stage and it was tough going, the legs were tired the bodies sore, the pitch was heavy and the wind and rain was not letting up. Coprduff scored the only point of the 10-minute period and Toome knew what they had to do, William scored another great point when a through ball was given to him in open space and the sides were level, Corduff scored again in the 19th minute and were a point in front, this game could have been going to a replay, then from nowhere and through a bit of scrappy play a ball was sent in and somehow a goal was scored and Toome were 4 points down and only seconds left, Toome were to grab another point but time ran out and that was the end of their Championship campaign for 2022. This was the end of the road for 2022 but this team really gave it their all in this semi-final, they could all stand proud at the end of the match and each player left it all on the field, no regrets could be had and although it was not to be on this day, it was fair to say that Toome deserve their spot in intermediate football and will drive on next year once again to reach senior. Huge thanks to all the Toome faithful who came out in big numbers to support the lads. Thanks to each and every player, the management, and all the families and loved ones of these dedicated and committed group. We look forward to what lies ahead and the 2023 season.
