Clones Senior Men

Our Seniors are playing in the Junior Championship Final this Saturday at 4pm in Aughnamullen.

This squad have put alot of hard work in this year to reach this point and we hope to see a large crowd out to support the boys on the day.

Under 17’s Boys Division 2 Championship Final 2022

All roads led to Aghabog on Sunday as the Under 17’s had their Championship final against Aughnamullen. The conditions were horrendous and it would lead to a completely different type of game than the one would have hoped for.

Both teams went at it from the start and there were titanic battles all over the pitch. There was some fantastic defending done and with the conditions dictating a lot, the teams went in level at half time on a scoreline of 0-3 to 0-3. The scores coming from Eoghan McFarland and a couple from target man Diarmuid McElvaney.

Clones were now playing against the breeze in the second half and went at Aughnamullen from the start as they were well fit to do, and within the first 8 mins Clones managed to put some daylight between the 2 teams with points from Eoghan McFarland, Darragh McElvaney and a brace from Diarmuid McElvaney.

Aughnamullen never gave up and continued battling away and got 2 points on the 12th and 21st minute to pull the game back to 3 points but couldn’t get any closer. They went for the long ball and with some top-drawer defending Clones cleared their lines and got the last score from the boot of Eoghan McFarland on the 28th min. Final score 0-09 to 0-05.

It was a credit to both teams that they never stopped until the final whistle and for Clones to lift the cup the scenes were brilliant. This squad were decimated with injuries all year and to come back and achieve this says an awful lot of the character of the squad.

This was truly a gutsy team performance, and it would be unfair to pick any one out in particular on the day.

Well done to them and the management team of Ciaran Mulhall, Colin McCaughey, Fintan Kelly and Darragh McDermott.

Anita spent many of her underage years playing with Clones Ladies and progressed on to play with Monaghan County Ladies for many years. Anita is currently a dedicated player for Emmet Og Senior Ladies alongside sister Michaela Newell. Two great role models for our younger female ladies & always about to lend a hand when needed.
