ToomeClubNotes

September 13th, 2022

Juveniles: Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. This Saturday 17th September the U9’s will enjoy a blitz at home in St Victors Park at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.

Seniors: The senior team played out the final round of the group stages in the Intermediate Championship on Sunday last, 11th September hosting our neighbours Blackhill. This was certainly not a game for the fair-weather supporter as the rain was once again bucketing down. The game was a typical derby Championship match played with plenty of enthusiasm and in good spirits. It was a low scoring game but this had more to do with the conditions rather than the football on the day. Toome started brightly and played some great football in spells despite the tough conditions, never looking to be in trouble. Toome opened the scoring and maintained a lead in the opening half with 4 scores to 2, with plenty of dispossession and wides by both teams. HT Score 0:04 -0:02. There was a brief delay to the start of the second half as referee Jason McAndrew had to be replaced after being hit with a ball in flight in the first half. The Hill came out in the second and produced the first 3 scores to go ahead by 1, then there was a little over and back with each scoring points, then Toome went ahead with a free from James and then Frank with a free and less than 5 minutes left on the clock, Toome looked to be in the driving seat, the Hill were having none of it though and with only 3 minutes left , the Hill hoofed a big high ball in and somehow it found the back of the net and suddenly the Hill were in front, albeit against the run of play. Then with the home side trying to gather their shape and composure they followed this up with another point to beat the home side and avoid the Championship relegation play-off. Toome go straight through to the semi-final as Group 2 table toppers and will meet the winners of the quarter final fixture between Corduff and Sean McDermotts. Date for the semi-final has been scheduled for Sunday 9th October so please save the date. Well done to the team and management on reaching the semi-final, and thank you to all who came out to support the team in the awful conditions.
