Juveniles: It was a big week for the juveniles last week, on Wednesday evening last, 31st August, Toome hosted Crossmaglen Rangers to play a challenge match with the U9’s and Oram who played our U7’s. This was a fantastic evening and there was some great football on display, this was a great opportunity for the children to showcase all the skills they have picked up in training, this was a great evening and we would like to thank all the children, their parents and coaches who came out on the evening and made this happen. This Wednesday Oram are hosting our U7’s and U9’s for a challenge match, all the children are looking forward to this.
On Sunday 4th September all our juvenile ballers attended the Castleblayney Adventure Centre for a day of team bonding, fun, games and plenty of craic. This was a fabulous day that started off with a canoe journey over to one of the islands off Lough Muckno and then some games and marshmallow roasting, then the children came back to do some more water games and jumping off the deck, followed by some land-based games that everyone had to work together as a team to accomplish. This was ended with a serving of chicken goujons and chips where the children were all able to talk and have the craic about the morning’s activities. This was a great treat for all the kids and it was smiles all around at the end of the day.
Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. This Saturday 10th September the U7’s will enjoy a blitz in Oram at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.
Seniors: The senior team played out round 4 of the Intermediate Championship on Saturday last, 3rd September with a visit to Monaghan Harps. This was certainly a game of two halves, the first was slow and scrappy half of football with only 5 scores, 3 from the home side and 2 for the visitors, the conditions were very poor indeed with the rain bucketing down. The second half seen and end to the rain and this allowed for a higher tempo and better football to be played. The game opened with William converting a well-placed free, with Harps responding in the 12th, 19th and 22nd minutes of the half to go in front by 2, William converted another free in the 23rd and it was nip and tuck throughout the half with plenty of breaking ball and dispossession but no scoring, Liam McCooey replaced Jamie before the break. Credit to our backs who worked tirelessly in the opening half in such tough conditions. HT Score: 0:02 – 0:03. The second period was a different affair and there was a determination in the visitors’ eyes that was wonderful to see. Harps opened the scoring in the second but it was not long until Toome responded with a great score from Ryan, the opening quarter was quiet and it was not until the 47th minute when Frank levelled the match with a well-taken free, William quickly followed this up with a superb score and Toome looked alive. Harps scored again to level but the visitors were not rattled, instead they upped the tempo and ran at the Harps with everything, William converting another free and then moments later scoring another fabulous point from play. Jason then travelled the full length of the field and pulled the trigger from out past the 20 and over she flew, to the great delight of the many travelling Toome supporters and the side-line, Frank quickly followed this up with a fine score from play, Harps pulled another back from a free and it was 3 between them. Stephen McCooey was on for Tom (R), Frank popped up again with another fine score and then it was Ryan again to put the visitors ahead by 5, deep in injury time (due to head injury), Gary replaced William. Harps with another score from play and then, Harps were reduced to 14 men with Aodhán Og McAnespie red carded for a strike. Ciaran McCooey replaced Sean McMahon, then 5 minutes into injury time Frank converted another well taken free and time was up, this was a fabulous win for the team and management, that now takes the lads straight to the Intermediate Championship semi-final. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team, this is greatly appreciated. FT Score: Toome 0:12 – 0:07 Monaghan Harps; Scorers: William 0:05 (3F), Frank 0:04 (2F), Ryan 0:02 and Jason 0:01.
