Seniors: There was a gloom around Pairc Fontenoy on Sunday evening that had nothing to do with the miserable weather and everything to do with events taking place 30 miles away in Scotstown. Donaghmoyne needed two points from their final group game to make the Championship quarter final but they also needed a winner in the Scotstown v Clontibret tie to avoid losing out on point’s difference.

Donaghmoyne set about their task with purpose scoring 1-6 to 0-3 in the first half, the goal coming from a smart turn and finish from Davy Garland following a surging break by Stephen Finnegan. Aughnamullen hit back with an early goal and point at the start of the second period only for Davy Garland to rifle home another goal in the 41st minute. The visitors were determined to make the Fontenoys work for their win closing to within 3 points and almost drawing level from a quick break away only for Shane Garland to make a last gasp save. Donaghmoyne finally broke the resistance with a third Declan Courtney point followed by a superb individual goal from Davy Garland to complete his hat trick. With events in Scotstown to close for comfort the Fontenoys set about chasing down the Ballybay score difference of plus seven pushing forward at every opportunity in search of another goal. As the final whistle sounded Donaghmoyne had won with a ten point margin four points short of what was needed and focus turned to events in Scotstown where the news seemed to be favourable, Scotstown were leading by 3 deep into injury time. As everyone turned to Twitter the inevitable happened and Clontibret equalised to undo all Donaghmoynes hard work sending us into the relegation battle. Having gone toe to toe with the top teams in the County Donaghmoyne became the first team not to qualify for the knock out stages having registered 5 points. There will be no time to dwell on what might have been as we must now prepare to take on Carrickmacross in the first relegation group game this Sunday in Pairc Fontenoy at 2.00pm please come along and support the lads.

U15s: There was disappointment for the U15s away to Scotstown on Saturday in the Championship semi-final when the home side staged a strong second half come back to overhaul Donaghmoynes 8 point lead. Losing on a score line of 7-07 to 2-14. Hard luck lads and a big thankyou to all the players and management on your hard work all season.
