Clones u17 Boys

Clones V Killanny Div 2 Championship

The Under 17’s continued their winning ways on Sunday morning with a well-deserved win against Killanny in St Tiarnach’s Park. A beautiful morning that allowed some excellent football to be played.

The lads started the game well but were very wasteful in the first 5 minutes and ended up conceding a goal from a hopeful shot in the 6th minute that put them on the backfoot a bit. Clones kept at it and with 2 points from Diarmuid McElvaney and Nathan McGovern the game was level after 12 mins. Killanny then scored 3 points to Clones’ one from Eoghan McFarland to lead by 2 after 17 mins.

Clones stared to find the posts at this stage and points from Brian Bonner, Eoghan McFarland and 2 from Diarmuid McElvaney and with a poacher’s goal on the 21st minute from the excellent Nathan McGovern, things were looking a lot brighter for them. Points were exchanged between the teams with Thomas Mulhall getting the point for Clones in the 29th minute.

Half Time score was Clones 1-9 to Killanny 1-04

The second half started in much the same way as the first with Clones being wasteful and then conceding a goal in the 5th minute, to narrow the gap to one point.

Points were swapped with Nathan and Diarmuid on the scoresheet again and it was then from the 17th minute on that Clones started to match their dominance with scores on the board. Points from Jamie McCaughey, Eoghan McFarland, James Bell Johnston, Thomas Mulhall and 3 more points from the powerhouse that is Diarmuid McElvaney put the game to bed. Killanny could only reply with 2 points during that period and the boys ran out easy winners in the end. Final Score: Clones 1-19 to Killanny 2-08.

A lot of excellent performances on the day and they now can look forward to a Semi Final on Sunday 2nd October against Aughnamullen or Magheracloone.

Team: Aarron Cunningham, Darragh McElvaney, Shane Freeman, Kieran O’Harte, Nathan McGovern, Jamie McCaughey, Callum McGorman, Marc Maguire, Eoghan McFarland, Thomas Mulhall, Cormac Adamson, Caolain Clerkin, James Bell Johnston, Diarmuid McElvaney, Brian Bonner. Subs used were Odhran McPhillips and Oisin Clerkin.
