Seniors: Our senior team made history on Sunday afternoon last beating Castleblayney in the Senior Championship Relegation Play-off group opener on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-10. While the visitors did open the scoring after four minutes, it was to be the only time they led throughout the game. A brace from Micheál Bannigan coupled with scores from Jason Duffy and Shane Conlon pushed Aughnamullen’s lead out to 0-04 to 0-01, which was followed by another burst with further scores from Bannigan, Darren Geoghegan and Sean Sheridan to put us six to the good with ten minutes remaining of the first half. However, a Blayney purple patch before the break cut the deficit in half to leave the scores at 0-08 to 0-05 at half time. The lads came out flying after the break to push the leaf out to six points again with scores from Sean Sheridan, Jason Duffy and Keith Sheridan. The closest the visitors could get from this point was within four points, when they had clear-cut goal chance snuffed out by the extremely tight and disciplined Aughnamullen defence. A superbly taken goal from Micheál Bannigan following a brilliant team move pushed our lead out to ten points, which was soon followed by another goal, this time off the boot of Kevin Sheridan who found the top of the net from distance which effectively killed the game off and ensured we would enjoy our first win in this year’s Senior Championship. A Blayney goal in injury time was nothing more than a consolation as we ran out nine point winners in the end of an historic game for the club. We look to build on this result and take a big step towards safety with an away game against Carrickmacross this Saturday evening at 5pm. Best of luck to the team and management. Come along and support the lads in this crucial match.
Under 17s: Our Under 17 team had a dramatic win away to neighbours Latton on Sunday morning last, when a late goal saw them come out on top on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-15. This result ensured that they finished the group on five points, only missing out on the top spot on points difference. They qualify for a Championship Semi Final at home to Killanny on Sunday the 2nd of October at 12pm. Best of luck to the team and management.
Under 15s: Our Under 15 Division 5B team are at home to Castleblayney this Friday the 23rd of September at 6.30pm. Best of luck to the team and management. All support welcome.
Under 13s: Our Under 13 Division 6 team had a brilliant 2-14 to 5-02 win over Monaghan Harps in the Championship Semi Final on Saturday afternoon last. They take on Carrickmacross in the Final on Sunday the 2nd of October at 11am in Doohamlet. Best of luck to the team and management.
Best of luck to our Division 1 Double winning Under 13 team from last year who are representing Monaghan in the Tain Óg 7s tournament this Saturday in Garvaghy. Best of luck lads from all in Aughnamullen, enjoy your day.
