Seniors: Our senior team hosted county champions Scotstown on Saturday afternoon last, with the visitors winning on a scoreline of 0-10 to 1-04. In what was played in torrential rain throughout, the game brought little by way of fast paced action or attractive football, however, given the conditions, it was arguably the lads’ finest performance of the year so far. A point from Stephen Geoghegan after 8 minutes of play opened the scoring for the game, which was followed by an exchange of scores from both teams, with Aughnamullen re-gaining the lead twice with well taken scores from Micheál Bannigan and Darren Geoghegan. Scotstown pushed ahead, and looked the more likely to lead at the break until a high ball from a mark from Mark McArdle found it’s way into the back of the net to give us a two point lead late in the half. The visitors responded rapidly with two scores to leave the sides level at the break on a scoreline of 1-03 to 0-06. Scotstown found scores easier to come by after the restart, which was the tale of the second half as a Colin Clerkin point was our only score in the half. Despite the lack of scores, the lads showed great discipline in their defense and held Scotstown out for the majority of the second half, leaving only a goal between the sides in the dying stage, with Aughnamullen unfortunate to not find another goal to grab a deserved point from the game. In the end the boys fell just short, but many positives can be taken from what was a battling, competitive performance against top quality opposition. This result means that we will contest the Relegation Group playoffs after the conclusion of group stage fixtures. Our final game of the group stages is away to Donaghmoyne this Sunday the 11th at 5pm. Come along and support the lads. Best of luck to the team and management.

Under 13s: Our Under 13 A team were beaten by Donaghmoyne at home on Saturday morning last on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-08 in the Division 1 Championship. Our Division 6 team had a great win at home to Magheracloone on Saturday last on a scoreline of 6-04 to 1-06. This result leaves them sitting at the top of the table after the group stages of the Championship. Fixture details for the next round are yet to be revealed. Keep an eye on social media for details.

Conor McSkeane Tournament: Our Under 9s and 11s travelled to Donaghmoyne on Saturday for the annual Conor McSkeane tournament. Despite the heavy rain our lads performed brilliantly and our Under 11 team narrowly got beaten in the final in extra time by a brave and determined Donaghmoyne team. Thank you to our coaches Paul mcArdle and Fabien Kerley for all their hard work.

Our Under 9s entered two teams with both preforming well during the group stages. Our A team got to the final where they faced a strong Carrick team, our lads showed dogged determination and eventually came out on top, with some brilliant scores. Again many thanks to our determined coaches Eamon and Eoin Lennon, Damien Connolly and Paddy Duffy.

Many thanks to the McSkeane family and Donaghmoyne for the invite and the very generous hospitality showed to our players, coaches and supporters during the day, nobody left hungry!

Ladies: Pride of place this week goes to our U14s who earned the title of Division 2 champions. The girls overcame Killanny in Blackhill last Sunday. Killanny registered the first score of the game with a point but Aughnamullen were keen to level the game with a point from Elle McArdle. Killanny kicked another point but great defending from Aoibheann Traynor, Niamh Hughes and Chloe Hamilton ensured Killanny didn’t get another score in the first half. Aughnamullen forwards, Mia Hamilton and

Eve McNally pressurised Killanny defence and an Emma Deery and Carla Keenan goal effort was also denied. Elle McArdle scored her 4th point of the half after Ava Sheridan overturned the Killanny forwards and worked the ball into our forwards. Carla Keenan scored a fine point before halftime to leave it 0:05-0:02 to Aughnamullen at halftime.

Killanny came out in the second half with a point to prove however, an excellent save from Molly McBrien denied Killanny of a goal and resulted in a well worked point from the Aughnamullen forwards. A well taken point from Megan Boyle pushed Aughnamullen 5 points into the lead. However, Killanny found their purple patch scoring 1:01 to bring them back into the game. Turnovers from Ava Mooney, Danielle Hamilton and Lucy Geoghgan ensured Killanny didn’t take the lead. Killanny registered 4 points in the second half but points from Megan Boyle, Hannah Conlon and Lucy Geoghgan kept Aughnamullen in the lead. Katie Woods, Eilish Sheridan and Austeja Paskeviciele got stuck in to secure Aughnamullen‘s title as Division 2 champions. Final score 12-1:07. It was a fantastic game and whole team performance the girls should be very proud. A special mention Alicia Duffy who missed the game but has played a pivotal role in the team to make the final.

Our U12 girls had 2 teams competing in the Conor McSkeane memorial tournament today and put on a serious show, getting the whole way to the final and just lost out by 2 points in a very entertaining game. The girls didn’t let the result or the rain dampen their fun.
