GoGo Games: Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. On Saturday last the children attended an U9 blitz hosted by Drumhowan where a great day was had by all. This Saturday 13th August the U7’s will enjoy a blitz at home in St Victors Park at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.

Seniors: The senior team were action on Sunday last, 7th August in the first round of the group stage of the Intermediate Championship against Sean McDermotts. Liam McCooey was suspended and there were a couple of injuries within the squad so this was going to require every man to give it his all. To be fair to the team and management, that they did. Everyone including the faithful supporters who travelled to Sean McDermmots gave it all they had, the support was brilliant and was a huge boost to the lads. This was always going to be a thrilling encounter, as the pair from last year’s Junior Championship final were to square up in the first round of the group stage of the Intermediate. The game did not disappoint, this was a nip and tuck match that had everyone on edge throughout. It also had a little bit of everything thrown in to the mix for good measure, mistakes, marks, bookings, sending offs and goals. Toome opened the scoring with a well struck free from William, Sean’s responded all too easily with a point. William who was on form was up again with a smartly taken mark, Paddy who was fed a great ball in was up next and with a little twisting a turning he found the back of the net and Toome were 4 in front. Sean’s clawed back and scored 3 unanswered points and this was all within the opening 12 minutes. James who had been working hard and laying off some great balls was up next with a fine score and then it was the turn of William with another well-placed free. Sean’s responded only for James to cancel that out with another fine score from play, William again with a well-earned point from play, Sean’s were determined and although Toome were playing the better football at this point they were having none of it a scored another 2 points on the bounce to reduce the deficit, Ryan who was covering a lot of ground pulled off a fine score and extended the lead to 3 and take us to the interval. HT Score – 1:07 – 0:07, Sean’s came out of the traps in the second and straight from the off went all the way and scored a point, William was to get a well-placed free next for the visitors and then Kearns for Sean’s was sent of for an off the ball incident and Sean’s were reduced to 14 men. James then punished the home side with a goal that was well worked. Moments later Sean’s had another man shown a red for an off the ball incident that was flagged to the referee by the umpire following William being brought down, Sean’s were now reduced to 13 men with 25 to play. James was on the scoresheet next with a free and then it was the turn of Joey who worked hard for his score. Sean’s got another from play and were throwing all they had at this, Friskey came on for Ryan, Sean’s with another score and then Tincer on for James. Joey again with another hard worked point, another sub and this time Ciaran for Stephen who put in a fine shift. Tincer next with a fabulous score to extend the lead to 8, Paddy was then off for Gary to steady the ship for the remaining minutes. Seans then put a high ball in, Hugo who had been solid was caught off guard and the ball found its way to the back of the net, Sean’s were giving it their all. William with another free and Sean’s pulled another back but it was not enough and Toome were able to clinch a vital win in the first round. This was a great team performance and the team and mangment truly deserved this win. Well done all. FT Score: Toome 2:13 – 1:11 Sean McDermotts. Scorers – William 0:06 (4F), James 1:03 (F), Patrick 1:00, Joseph 0:02, Ryan and Eoin 0:01. There is a bye next week and many of the lads will require the break to get over this opener. Next up will be a home match against Tyholland, be sure to come along and show your support.

Development Works: Works continue at St Victors Park, there is a lot of work completed to date with a lot more to do. If you are available to give a couple of hours or are available to operate an excavator, please get in touch. Thanks to Pauric Lambe who plastered the window reveals in the centre and Sean O’Reilly who then painted them, thanks lads. It was another busy week on the field development front, Eoghan Donaghy is making great progress on the works and this week, the focus was on repositioning the training lights on Conlon’s side of the pitch. This would not have been possible without the help of the following, Eoghan Watters,  Seamus Watters, Paul Lambe, Eugene McMahon, Tom (B) McMahon, John Lennon (Jnr), Tusker and Monaghan Hire. This was a great day’s work to have the lights repositioned and will allow for the pitch fencing to be erected on that side. Work continues in order to have St Victor’s Park ready for the Championship. Gerrard Kelly continues with the erection of the fencing and this will continue for some time, anyone who is available to help with this please get in touch. We will need help with the removal and replacement of lighting in the coming weeks. If you would like to help the Club in any way, please get in touch with either Club Chairperson – Gene Cumiskey on 087 918 6629 or Club Secretary – Ryan McMahon on 087 743 1970. We appreciate the efforts that everyone has shown and welcome any help that you can offer, remember this is all our club. #ÁrgClub
