Our Blues Competitive Games in the past week

Under 13 – 2022 Championships

Our Under 13 boys had no games in the past week. The 2022 Under 13 Championships commence this weekend. Our Under 13 Division 1 Boys play our neighbours Truagh away this Saturday 6th August at 11:00am in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 1 Group B Round 1 game. Our Under 13 Division 5 Boys play Castleblayney at home this Sunday 7th August at 11:00am in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 5 Group B Round 1 game. Our Under 13 Division 6 Boys play Monaghan Harps away this Saturday 6th August at 2:00pm in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 6 Group A Round 1 game.

Under 15

Our Under 15 Division 1 boys had no games in the past week. Well done to our U15 Division 5A team who beat Donaghmoyne at home 3-13 to 3-9 in a thrilling U15 Division 5A league Shield Semi Final game on Friday of last week. Congratulations on making the Shield Final which is against Aughnamullen. We wish them all the best in the final.

Under 17

Our U17 Division 1 boys had no games in the past week. They next played Castleblayney at home on Tuesday 2nd August in the Under 17 Football League Division 1 Cup Semi Final. Please see our Social Media platforms for the results. Our Under 17 Division 3 boys had no games in the past week. They next play Monaghan Harps on Thursday 4th August at 7:30pm in the U17 Division 3B Football League Cup Final in Emyvale. We wish them all the best in the final.

Under 19

Our Under 19 Blues had no games in the past week. Well done to the team and managers Cian Mohan and Mark Corrigan in their 2022 campaign which saw them make it to the U19 Division 2 Final.

Senior Reserves – O’Duffy Cup Champions!

Massive congratulations to our Senior Reserves in their Reserve Championship O’Duffy Cup success on Tuesday of last week against a strong Latton side. The game finished Scotstown 1-13 Latton 0-10. Latton started strongly and led by 2 points after 10 minutes. The Blues scored 3 superb points within as many minutes from James Hamill, Joseph McKenna and Jason Carey, before Cian Mohan made the first of several brilliant shot blocking saves that prevented Latton from scoring a crucial goal. James Hamill added 3 more fine points to give the Blues a 0-6 to 0-4 lead, before Mark McPhillips scored a superb goal with a clinical finish. Latton responded strongly and reduced the lead to 3 points, but Orin Heaphy scored a fine crucial point just at the end of the first half making the score 1-7 to 0-6.

Latton started the second half strongly and reduced the deficit to 2 points after 6 minutes. After a tense 5 minutes of no scoring, Jason Carey (2 points) and Mark McPhillips scored 3 fine points within 2 minutes to restore the advantage to 5 points. The Blues held on to their advantage for the rest of the game with further fine scores from James Hamill and Sean Treanor before the joint captain, Ross McKenna secured the win in injury time with a superb point making the full time score Scotstown 1-13 Latton 0-10. Hard Luck and commiserations to Latton. Many thanks to Sean McDermotts for their superb hosting of the final. Well done all the players and the management, Eddie Beggan, Dermot McCrudden and Mark McDevitt, on a successful year for the Senior reserves. Scorers in the final were; James Hamill (0-5); Mark McPhillips (1-1); Jason Carey (0-3); Orin Heaphy, Joseph McKenna, Ross McKenna and Sean Treanor (0-1).

Junior Reserves

Our Junior Reserves had no games in the past week. They next play Truagh on Wednesday 3rd August in the Reserve Football League Division 3 Shield Final at 7:30pm in Emyvale. We wish them all the best in the final.

Greenfield Foods Senior Championship Football – 2022 Campaign starts this weekend

Our Senor Men had no games in the past week. They next play Ballybay away this Sunday 7th August at 5pm in the Greenfield Foods Senior Football Championship Group 1 Round 1 game. Please see note below for further details on this year’s championship.

Universal Graphics Junior Championship Football

Our Junior Men had no games in the past week. Their next game is in the Junior Championship to compete for the Liam Stirrat cup, which commences in early August. Their first game is on Sunday 14th August against Eire Óg at home at 5:00pm in Group 2 Round 2 of the group stage of the Championship.

Senior Ladies League Football

Our Senior Ladies had no games in the past week. Their next game is in the Senior Championship in August and their opening game is away to Donaghmoyne on Sunday 21st August at 11:00am.

Under 12 Girls

Well done to our Under 12 girls who beat Donaghmoyne at home in the Under 12 League Division 1 Round 4 game on Thursday of last week. They next play Sean McDermotts away in the Under 12 League Division 1 Round 5 game on Friday 12th August at 7:00pm. Hard luck to our Under 11 girls in their defeat to Aughnamullen away in the Under 12 League Proper Division 2 Round 4 game on Wednesday of last week. They next play Killanny at home in the Under 12 League Division 2 Round 5 game on Saturday 13th August at 11:00am.

Under 14 Girls – Double Cup Success!

Massive congratulations and well done to both our Under 14 girls teams and management with a double cup success on Monday and Tuesday nights of last week. The Under 14 Division 1 girls won the U14 Division 1 League Cup in a packed Monaghan Harps ground on Monday 25th July by 1-12 to 3-4. The girls started strongly and secured a 7 point lead after 20 minutes with superb points by Ellie Graham (2), Hollie Mullen, Ava McGinnity, and Isobel Waddington, and a brilliant goal by Ava McGinnity making the score 1-5 to 0-1. The girls increased their lead with 2 fine points by Ellie Graham making the half time score 1-7 to 0-2. The Blues started strongly in the second half with Ellie Graham and Ava McGinnity adding to their tally with 2 well placed points before Castleblayney scored a goal and a point reducing their deficit to 6 points. With 10 minutes to go the Blues increased their advantage to 9 points with 2 more fine points from Ellie Graham and a well placed point from Éadaoin Gallagher making the score 1-15 to 1-3 going into injury time. However Castleblayney made a spirited comeback scoring 2 goals and a point, reducing the margin to a slim 2 points. However their goal from penalty was the last kick of the game and the Under 14 girls secured the League Cup after a nail biting last few minutes!. Well done girls and congratulations to the team and the management, Brian McGinnity, Valerie Groarke, Gareth Graham, Brenda McCarey, Owen McMahon, Caoimhe Mohan, Shelley Mooney, Eamon Treanor and Annette Waddington. The Under 14 Division 1 girls next play O’Neill Shamrocks at home in the Under 14 Division 1 Championship Quarter Final on Monday 8th August at 7:00pm.

On Tuesday 26th July, the Under 14 Division 4 girls played Donaghmoyne in the Under 14 Division 4 League Cup final in Tyholland. Massive congratulations and well done to the team and management in winning the final by 3-15 to 2-4. The girls started strongly and led by 1-9 to 0-3 at half time. The Blues continued their great play and stretched their lead further to 2-14 to 1-3 after 10 minutes of the second half. They kept their margin with superb team effort and performance and secured the league cup with a final score of 3-15 to 2-4. Well done girls and congratulations to the team and management (as above). We wish the U14 Division 4 team captain Kaoimhe Treanor a speedy recovery. They next play Monaghan Harps away in the Under 14 Division 4 Championship Quarter Final on Tuesday 9th August at 7:00pm.

Under 16 Girls

Our Under 16 girls had no games in the past week. They next play in the U16 Championship Quarter Final at home to Magheracloone on Monday 15th August at 7:00pm.

Under 18 Girls

The Under 18 girls had no games in the past week. They next play Aughnamullen away on Saturday 6th August at 7:00pm in the U18 Division 1 Round 8 game.

2022 Monaghan Club Football Men’s Championship

This weekend sees the commencement of the 2022 Greenfield Foods Monaghan GAA Senior Football Championship. Our senior men drew Aughnamullen, Ballybay, Clontibret and Donaghmoyne and are in Group 1. Our first fixture is away to Ballybay Pearce Brothers this Sunday 7th August at 5:00pm in Pearce Park. The following fixtures are; Sunday 21st August home to Donaghmoyne at 2:00pm; Saturday 3rd September away to Aughnamullen at 3:00pm and Sunday 11th September home to Clontibret at 5:00pm. We wish all our senior players, our senior manager Colin McAree, and selectors Diarmuid Scullion and Kevin Boylan the very best in the championship campaign.

In the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship, our Junior Men drew Aghabog, Erin Og, Oram and Rockcorry and are in Group 2. Our first fixture is on Sunday 14th August at home to Eire Óg at 5:00pm; Saturday 20th August away to Oram at 4:00pm; Sunday 4th September home to Rockcorry at 2:00pm and Saturday 10th September away to Aghabog at 5:30pm. We wish all our junior players and the management Mick Mc Cormack, Mark Corrigan, Paul Rooney and Mark Duffy the very best today

U18 LGFA All Ireland B Minor Final – Monaghan v Longford

All the best to Éabha Sherry and Katie Sherlock and the rest of the Monaghan team and management on Wednesday 3rd August in the Monaghan Minors Final against Longford in Ashbourne.

Our Blues Upcoming Competitive Fixtures for the Week

On Wednesday 3rd August our Junior Reserves play Truagh in the Reserve Football League Division 3 Shield Final at 7:30pm in Emyvale.

On Thursday 4th August our Under 17 Division 3 boys play Monaghan Harps in the U17 Division 3B Football League Cup Final at 7:30pm in Emyvale. We wish them all the best in the final.

On Friday 5th August, our U15 Division 5A team play Aughnamullen in the U15 Division 5A league Shield Semi Final game at 7:30pm (Note: Subject to change, please see our Social Media platforms for confirmation). We wish them all the best in the final.

On Saturday 6th August, our Under 18 girls play Aughnamullen away at 7:00pm in the U18 Division 1 Round 8 game. Our Under 13 Division 1 Boys play our neighbours Truagh away at 11:00am in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 1 Group B Round 1 game and our Under 13 Division 6 Boys play Monaghan Harps away at 2:00pm in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 6 Group A Round 1 game.

On Sunday 7th August, our Senior Men play Ballybay away at 5:00pm in the Greenfield Food Senior Football Championship Group 1 Round 1 game. Our Under 13 Division 5 Boys play Castleblayney at home at 11:00am in the Under 13 Football Championship Division 5 Group B Round 1 game.

On Tuesday 9th August, our Under 14 Division 4 girls play Monaghan Harps away in the U14 Division 4 Championship Quarter Final at 7:00pm.

Scotstown GAA Online Club Lotto – Jackpot €8,600 Next Draw.

Thanks to everyone involved in our online lotto draw for a €8,500 jackpot on Wednesday 3rd August. Please see our Social Media platforms for more details of the results.

In the July 27th draw, there was no Jackpot winner. Numbers drawn on the night were 2, 15, 23, 18. We had two Match 3 winner who wins € 25 each – They were Ann Murray and Stephen Mc Kenna. We also had 3 Lucky Dip winners this week of € 20 each. They were Gerard Mc Guirk, Christopher Boylan and Declan Mc Carville. Congratulations to all our winners! The Scotstown GAA online Lotto Draw takes place every Wednesday at 8:30pm with last entries at 8pm. The draw is conducted on-line and is fully automated using secure facilities. There are 4 numbers to choose from a range of 1 to 31.

Match the 4 numbers to win the Jackpot of €8,600.

If no jackpot winner €100 is rolled over to the following week.

Also if there is no jackpot winner there will be lucky dips.

Club Shop Opening Times

The Club Shop is next open on Friday 12th August from 7pm to 8pm and will be open every 2 weeks for the next while.

Social Club open

The Social Club is open this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 9pm. Bar Rota: Evelyn Boylan and Abbie McCarey.

Cairde na Botha – Congratulations to our 2nd Draw winners

Our second big cash prizes draw took place last Sunday night in our Social Club. The Kilmore Development – Update

Thanks to all our many supporters who have signed up so far for our Cairde na Botha fundraising initiative. Since the start of the year construction has commenced on the Kilmore

building and there has been significant development since the last update in May, with the windows installed and the interior partitions built. The painting work has commenced 3 weeks ago and the plumbing work has started. The electrical work has also commenced.

Health and Wellbeing

Scotstown GAA is part of the Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. This is a timely initiative for a post Covid-19 world and we look forward to the Healthy Club project in our future and recovery from the pandemic. As we now enter the summer months and the football is up and running, we will be implementing more Healthy initiatives soon, such as the recent health check at the Scotstown v Truagh senior league game, and will update everyone as these happen.

Monaghan Rose Rachel Woods tractor run

Many thanks to all our volunteers who helped out in the stewarding of the Monaghan Rose’s, Rachel Woods, Tractor Run on Sunday last. Rachel Woods from Tydavnet Parish, will be representing the County of Monaghan in this year’s Rose of Tralee after winning the County competition as representing Tydavnet Show. Our club would like everyone to get behind her and give her all the support we can muster especially with her other fundraising activities. Refreshments for after Blessing of the graves

The Blessing of the graves take place on Sunday 14th August at 12:30pm in St Mary’s Urbleshanny and at 4:00pm St. Dympna’s Tydavnet. We will be having tea and chat afterwards in the Scotstown Complex after the Urbleshanny blessings and there will also be tea in Tydavnet Community Centre after the Tydavnet blessings.

1997 and 1998 Monaghan Ladies Honoured at Croke Park

Well done to Martina Gray, Brenda McAnespie and Anita Harvey and the rest of the Monaghan Ladies County team from 1997 and 1998 who were honoured in Croke Park at the All Ireland LGFA Finals on Sunday last.

Ulster GAA 2 Day Canoeing Expedition

Ulster GAA is organising a 2 Day Canoeing Expedition on 11th August. The expedition is delivered by getactiveabc and all the young people achieved their aims of improving team work and communication skills while building resilience. 5th Annual Run to Remember – Gary Askin
