Currin were the visitors to Pairc Eanna last Sunday in the opening round of this years Junior Championship. It was a sluggish start for us taking 5 mins to register trough Conor Vernon but Currin equalised two mins later from a free. Cillian Leegan got the first of his 3 points on the day then, but Currin who were making life difficult with a 14-man defence managed another equaliser on the counter attack. Two scores from Eddie Walsh put us 2 points up after 22 mins but Currin pulled another back a minute later. Cillian Leegan managed to find some space and hit a great score off his ‘seldom used’ right foot but it was Currin who had the final say of the half with a fine score to leave just a point between the sides at half-time. Change was needed and our management team introduced Kyle Connolly & Jack Kiernan at the start of the second half, but it was Currin who struck first, getting the equaliser on 32 mins. We needed a spark to get going as it had been a lethargic performance to this point, but that spark arrived on 40 mins when a mistake by the Currin goalkeeper on the kick-out let Eddie Walsh in for an opportunist goal. The Currin defence that had been holding firm for so long was rocked and we seized the moment…..two more quick points from Mark Grimes & Conor Vernon followed by another goal from probably the best move of the match finished off by Dean Connolly effectively had us out of sight. Eddie Walsh & Kyle Connolly added on 2 more points either side of a Currin free but after 50 mins we were now 9 points up. Added to this, further scores from Kyle Connolly, MJ Callan & Cillain Leegan again before Gavin Flanagan & Conor Grimes were introduced as substitutes and both made a further impact with Conor getting 2 good points and Gavin being in the right place at the right time to palm to the net Danny Leegan’s centre. Danny himself finished off the scoring with a free in injury time to leave the full-time score Killanny 3-14; Currin 0-06
