Clones Club Notes 23rd August 2022

Our senior team had their first home game of the championship against our neighbours Currin on Sunday evening. Played in excellent conditions, the lads trailed by 2 points at half time on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-9. A perfect start to the second half came via a well taken James Mealiff goal from the throw in, and the team never ceased control on the scoreboard from this point on, with James adding a second goal 5 minutes later. There were a number of well taken scores on both sides with Clones eventually running out victors on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-12

Un17 Boys

Clones V Donaghmoyne Div 2 Championship

The Under 17’s got their Championship up and running on Monday night at home to Donaghmoyne. This was the first time all year that this group got close to fielding a full team and it showed.

The lads were on the front foot right from the start and raced into a 1-05 to 0-00 lead after 10 mins thanks to 1-01 from Eoghan McFarland, 2 points from James Bell Johnston and points from Caolain Clerkin and Brian Bonner.

The lads kept pushing and scores being traded between the sides with Eoghan McFarland adding another 1-01, Brian Bonner another point the lads were in cruise control. In fairness to Donaghmoyne they kept the pressure on and forced our lads into some handling errors throughout. Half Time score was 2-07 to 1-02

The second half saw the welcome introduction of Diarmuid McElvaney who is working his way back to fitness after being out all summer. Clones completely dominated the first 20 mins and in doing so kept Donaghmoyne scoreless, with scores coming from Jamie McCaughey 1-01, DJ McElvaney 0-02, Thomas Mulhall 0-01 and Eoghan McFarland with another 1-01.

The last 10 mins was more of the same with Donaghmoyne getting 3 points on the board and Clones adding more scores, DJ McElvaney 1-01, Nicky McGovern 1-00, Shane Freeman 0-01. Final Score was Clones 6-14 to Donaghmoyne 1-05

Next up is Aghabog away next Monday.
