Pride of The Parish: On Wednesday evening last, the Monaghan Minor Girls team took on Longford in the All Ireland B Final in Ashbourne, a final which will be etched in the county’s history books for years to come. Trailing by seven points at half time, Monaghan had it all to do in the second half. 30 action packed minutes later and the sides were deadlocked at the final whistle, much to the credit of the Monaghan team. Needing a hero in extra time, up stepped our own Super Star Ulrika McMahon who made an immediate impact, scoring an early goal and setting up a point. Ulrika scored a total of 2-02 from open play in extra time, as well as creating a number of crucial points, all but sealing the All Ireland title for the Farney county. Jubilant scenes followed at the final whistle, with two of our own club members at the forefront of the All Ireland success, as Ulrika and Eugene Bannigan, who was part of the management team, celebrated with the huge Monaghan support on the field in what was an historic day for the club. Congratulations to the team and management, especially to our own Ulrika and Eugene, you have done your club extremely proud.

No more than 24 hours after the All Ireland success, our Under 15 team took to the field in Killanny in the Division 2 League Cup Final against Magheracloone on Thursday evening, where yet again history was created. After a pulsating encounter, the boys came out on top on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-12. In a game which was swung by periods of momentum and dominance had by both teams, Aughnamullen fought back from an early uphill battle, trailing by four points to no score in the opening stages to then score nine points without reply, leaving the scores at 0-09 to 0-04 coming up to the end of the half. Aughnamullen had a wide range of scorers and played some excellent team football in this period, with points coming from Conor Connolly, Cormac McNally and Sean Murtagh, to name but a few. Two points for Magheracloone just before the break set the tone for the start of the second half, with further points from the restart for the boys in black and white to draw the game level. A goal for Magheracloone pushed them ahead until Aughnamullen responded with their own following brilliant work from the impressive Cormac McNally to set up substitute David Geoghegan to calmly slot the ball home into the net and regain our advantage. A nervy finish

followed, and with the help of some excellent fielding from midfielder Luke Gilliland as well as inspirational defending from each of the backs, Aughnamullen held out for an exciting victory which ensured that joint Captains James McCahey and Emmett Garivan lifted the cup. The team was as follows; Josh Daly, Conor Mulligan, Emmett Garivan (JC), Ryan Phillips, Thomas Lambe, Shane Geoghegan, Caolan Daly, James McCahey (JC), Luke Gilliland, Patrick Lambe, Matt McNally, Sean Murtagh, Cormac McNally, Conor Connolly, David Geoghegan, Ciaran Deery, Sean Deery, Gerard Connolly, Phil McCaul, Luke Mulligan & Ben McGeough. Congratulations to the team and the management team of Philip Lambe, Gerard McGeough, Martin Woods, Phil McCaul, Patrick Geoghegan & Brian McArdle.

Aughnamullen Summer Camp 2022: Summer Camp 2022

Another year, another camp and what a wonderful week it was! Aughnamullen GAA hosted over 200 children at our annual summer camp with the help of 50+ coaches!

The week went well and we were far luckier this year with the weather than the previous!

For a camp to run and accommodate this number of children takes a lot of organisation and help from the community.

A huge thanks to our organising committee Angela Duffy, Bea McArdle, Briege Sheridan, Yvonne Murtagh, Finbarr Crowe, Noeleen Deery and the one and only Annie Hannaway who came all the way from Dubai to be here. She is the chief organiser with rotas, games, coaches, teams and scoreboards. She is one in a million so thanks Annie!

Thanks to our coaches, some who came from other clubs and gave their time to volunteer and help. We hope the Aughnamullen top was worth it!

Thanks to our car park stewards Seamus, Tommy, Packie and Paddy who with Finbarr’s guidance kept the children safe and the traffic flowing. We promise to upgrade the biscuits for your tea next year!

Thanks to Mary Duffy who is always there to keep the tea and biscuits going all day for our helpers and coaches and to Briege Sheridan for donating barrels of biscuits!

Thanks to our first aiders Sharon Crowe, Anita Finnegan and Bernie Murtagh. The magic spray you have works wonders! We wish Carla Keenan a speedy recovery with her injury she received during the mini leagues. Your team missed you at the final!

We were honoured to have our very own club and Monaghan county players, Micheál Bannigan and Ulrika McMahon attend to present the certificates for skills challenges and mini leagues. The children then took the opportunity to have photos taken and get jerseys, bags and boots signed by our local celebrities.

A huge thanks to our chef Ollie Morrisey who came and cooked the food for the children on the last day. Thank you to McGee meats for sponsoring the sausages and Gifts n Things for sponsoring the bowls.

We are still extremely grateful to KeeBride Construction who this year became our summer camp main sponsor. Thanks to Angela Keenan and Donna McBride for cutting the ribbon for our official opening!

Thank you to all the parents for your patience at drop off and pick up as we know it’s busy and we really appreciate you adhering to the one way system.

Last but not least a thank you to all children that attended. They are all a credit and we hope they all enjoyed the week!

Just a reminder that our summer camp is organised and ran by the local community and the feedback from the children is always positive. If any parents/community members want to get involved or have any positive suggestions they are always welcome!

Annie is heading back to Dubai soon and the committee wish her all the best for the year ahead but will make sure her ticket is booked back for next year!

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
