Seniors – Reserves
Congratulations to our reserve team and management on capturing the Division 2B league title on Friday evening v’s Toome in Ballybay.
In a game played in slippery conditions, that was nip and tuck throughout, the lads prevailed on a scoreline of 2-08 to 1-08.
Andrew McCaughey got the first goal of the game to give the team the perfect start with a great finish to the top corner. However, Toome regrouped and there was never more than a couple of points in it during the first half. The concession of a black card for the final 10 minutes of the half thankfully did no damage and the lads held on well during the period to lead 1-04 to 0-06 at half time.
The second half was similar to the first in that it was essentially score-for-score between the sides. However, it was Toome who went ahead when they grabbed a goal on the counter attack leaving them 1-07 to 1-05 ahead with 20 minutes to go. Cool heads were required at this stage and the lads worked the ball to manage the game effectively from here on out. James McCabe restored our lead with a well taken goal which left it 2-07 to 1-07. Toome pressed on looking for the illusive goal but a solid performance at the back held them out to ensure victory for the lads on the night.
A special mention must go to the younger players Ryan Nolan (5 points), Andrew and James who contributed to 2-05 of the total on the night showing how they have seamlessly slotted into the panel this year, and hopefully for many years to come. Also a shout out to the not-so-younger players Dutchy Holland and Paul Connolly who were instrumental in the second half in getting the team over the line. Well done men!
