ToomeClubNotes
GoGo Games: Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. On Saturday last the children attended an U9 blitz at home in St Victors Park and great day was had by all. This Saturday the U7’s will enjoy a blitz this Saturday 30th July in Latton at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.
Seniors: The senior team were out on Saturday last, 23rd July against our neighbours Blackhill in the IFL relegation final. This was a game that was going to be tough and hard hitting from the off and would have a championship edge to it. It was not a match for the faint of heart either and in fairness to both teams a good exhibition of football was afforded to the many spectators who made the short journey to Oram for this encounter. Every Toome man on the field and side-line gave it their all for this match and with the collective team effort it was evident that the lads were up for this challenge. First up was James with a fine point only for the Hill to respond all to easily with a goal that more should have been done to stop, William then scored a well-placed free and this was followed up by Liam McCooey who slotted over a well-earned point. James who was being double marked got away from his man and converted another fine score. William with another accurately taken free, Blackhill responded with a free and this was getting tense and only a point in it. William was then taken down in front of goals and was awarded a free that was placed over with ease, only moments later with his next touch of the ball it was William again and it was in the back of the net for a great goal. Then James put in a fantastic ball to find William again and once he gets a sniff of gaol, that’s enough and it was another well taken goal. Next out of nowhere Liam McCooey was given a red card that nobody seemed to know what for and Toome were down a man. The Hill came back with a point and then awarded a free that was also converted, Hugo then with a fine save. William again with another free, taking us to half time – the score was corrected at HT: 2:08 – 1:03. The second half started with Hugo making another fine save and then it was William again with a fine free followed up with a point from play. The Hill came back with two points. Ryan Murphy was off for Danny. The Hill got a free and although taken the ref called it back again and the Hill scored a goal from this reducing the gap to 5. William stepped up again with a fine score with the Hill coming back at them with three on the bounce and now only 3 between them. This was all very tense now, the Hill missed a one-on-one goal chance and put it wide. Shane McCooey on for Mattie, Jason and Joey were working tirelessly at the back, Blackhill player was given a black card and as he was walking off as shown the red. This was a tense affair and only minutes left, James stepped up with a fine score and then Paddy had a goal chance blocked for Friskey to get on the end of it and score a much needed point and it was 5 in it with only 4 left on the clock. The Hill got another point and then came at us again only for Stephen Lambe to miss time his tackle and catch the player bringing him down and be given a black card. The lads seen out the remainder of the game and were the overall deserved winners, great game of ball and a great result. FT Score: Toome 2:13 – 2:09 Blackhill. William 2:07 (5F), James 0:03, Liam and Danny 0:01. (1 players score was missed). The focus will now turn to the championship and with the first-round match against Sean McDermotts on 7th August there is no time to lose.
