ToomeClubNotes

July 5th, 2022

GoGo Games: Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. On Saturday last the children attended an U7 blitz hosted by Blackhill and a great day was had by all. This Saturday the U9’s will enjoy a blitz to be hosted by Oram at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.

Seniors: The senior team were out on Saturday last, 2nd July against Doohamlet. This was a great effort from the lads and they gave a commanding performance in the first half, however, Doohamlet are an experienced team and this showed in the second period, the visitors ran out of steam and Doohamlet were the deserved winners in the end, plenty of positives to be taken from this match as this was some of the best ball played thus far this season. The next match is another tough encounter in a home fixture against Cremartin on Friday 8th July. We will need all our Toome faithful support to get behind the team, so please be sure to come along and support the lads. #Bethe16thMan.

Reserves: The reserves played what was a very exciting and thrilling encounter against Drumhowan in the RFC Crawley Cup semi-final in Drumhowan on Tuesday night last. This was a great game of football and had plenty of excitement in it, the Toome lads really pushed on in this game and gave a gutsy and determined performance throughout. Drumhowan were tough opposition, and this was a high scoring and high intensity game played in great spirits. Liam McCooey opened the scoring with a well-placed free, Tom was up next having worked well to get in a scoring position and effortlessly slotted it over. Liam Mc who was creating all kinds of problems was up next with a well-placed score from play. Ryan who played some exceptional football and worked hard produced the next two scores with the second being a peach after some great ball work from the middle. Drumhowan scored their first only for Liam to be on point again with a free, then against the run of play the home side capitalised on some sloppy play and brought the ball the whole way through the field and scored a thunderous goal all too easily. It was nip and tuck now and two between them, Liam Mc was accurate again with another well taken free, the home side responded, and this all happened in the opening 17 minutes. The teams cancelled each other out with some great work by both back lines, Drumhowan scored once more before the interval taking us to the break on a score of 0:07 – 1:03. Kevin McCooey who was superb opened the scoring after the break with a great run, then it was the turn of Cormac Quinn who is playing some fantastic football this season with a great goal that almost burst the net, Kevin Mc was on song again with another great score, Tincer who came on at the interval for Kevin Tibby was on the scoresheet next with a finely crafted point from play. It looked now as if the visitors were in the driving seat. The home side still had plenty to say and bounced back with two well-earned points. Liam Murphy won a great ball and through sheer determination played a great ball through, Ryan capitalised on this and scored a fine goal to open the gap once more to eight. Drumhowan dug in once more and pulled another two scores out of the bag and with still 15 to play it was anyone’s game. Joey who was having a wonderful game alongside Quinn in the middle was up next with a fantastic goal created from very little and a lot of guts. Only for the home side to answer straight back with a goal scored in similar fashion and through their own sheer belief and determination the home side scored another, now with 10 left and injury time we at a three-point game. Tincer was called on next and on a through ball, running through took the ball and answered a few critics and possibly himself with a superbly taken goal to restore a six-point advantage, he followed this up with a fine point within the same minute and stretch the lead to seven. Drumhowan kept coming and slotted another over, Cormac Q responded with a point following some great work and a high catch from Kevin H, Drumhowan scored another, but the visitors had done enough now at this stage. The whistle blew and Toome reserves were in the final of the Crawley Cup. Credit to both teams for the thrilling entertainment and football on display. Well done to the team and management on reaching the RFC Crawley Cup final. FT Score: Toome 4:12 – 3:09 Drumhowan. Scorers: Ryan and Tincer 1:02, Liam McCooey 0:04 (3F), Cormac Q 1:01, Joey 1:00, Kevin Mc 0:02 and Tom (R) 0:01.

Minors: The Óglaigh Naomh Buach minors were back in action on Sunday last, 3rd July in a home (Corduff) fixture against Cremartin. U19’s: The Óglaigh Naomh Buach team were back in action on Thursday last 30th June, in an away fixture to Scotstown. This was a spectacular affair with both teams really giving it their all, an impressive performance from  the Óglaigh Naomh Buach lads who really put in the hard yards, despite an impressive 3:06 from Joey this game ran out a draw, Óglaigh Naomh Buach 4:10 – 1:19 Scotstown.  Thank you to all who came out to support the lads. #Bethe16thMan.
