Seniors: On Sunday afternoon last our senior team beat Carrickmacross away from home in the Semi Final of the league relegation Play Off, winning on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-13 in a pulsating encounter. In what was a blistering heat, the first half got off to a slow start for both teams, with mistakes aplenty and scores hard to come by. Carrick opened up a four point lead through a goal on the twenty minute mark, which was immediately cancelled out through a well taken goal from the left foot of corner back Shay Duffy. Carrick opened up another two point gap, but were reeled in by points from Kieran Duffy and Stephen Geoghegan to leave the teams level at the break on a score of 1-05 to 1-05. An early Micheál Bannigan point from the restart set the thempo for what was a high intensity second half, with points being traded from both teams and neither gaining a clear advantage on the other. Points from Darren Geoghegan and Bannigan looked to edge it for Aughnamullen, but an equaliser from the hosts late into injury time made the game seem destined for extra time. Similar to last year’s Championship Semi Final, it was the left foot of Jason Duffy which proved decisive with the last kick of the game, showing nerves of steel to sail over a dramatic winner and save Aughnamullen from a Relegation Play Off Final. Overall it was a deserved win for the blues, who’s attention now turns to the Championship, which begins on the Weekend of the 14th of August. Details of the group below.

Senior Championship Draw: We’ve been drawn into Group 1 of the Senior Football Championship alongside Scotstown, Clontibret, Ballybay and Donaghmoyne. Our first game is at home to Clontibret on the weekend of the 14th of August.

Under 19s: Our Under 19 team claimed an historic win in the Division 3 Final on Tuesday evening last against Killanny in Latton. In the early stages Killanny looked the stronger team and raced into a four points to no score lead. However, our lads stuck in and turned the tide, grabbing a stranglehold on the game. Some great scores from Bobby McCaul, including a goal placed into the top corner of the net, brought Aughnamullen back into the game. A further score from Ben McCabe and another goal

from the boot of Christopher Geoghegan just before the break sent us in a point ahead at half time. The second half started with scores being traded from both sides, including a well taken point from Cillian Traynor. The turning point of the game was a red card for a Killanny player, which sprung a purple patch for the boys to open up a six point gap, one coming from half the length of the field from Conor Boyle. Killanny made a late drive, with a goal reducing the gap to two points leaving a nervy finish to the game which wasn’t for the feint hearted. Some inspirational defensive performances ensured Aughnamullen held out for a win which secured deserved silverware for the team’s efforts. Massive congratulations to the players and the management team of Brian Mc Ardle, Gussie Forde and Colm Mc Geough.

Thank you to David and Debbie McArdle for sponsoring the meal and to Gerry McElroy for sponsoring kit bags for the team. Your support is greatly appreciated.
