GoGo Games: Our youngest ballers (4 – 11 years) continue to develop their skills with training each Tuesday evening from 7:00pm. All the children are having a great time and plenty of fun while making new friends as they develop their skills, thanks to all our coaches/mentors who give their time so generously. On Saturday last the children attended an U9 blitz hosted by Cremartin and a great day was had by all. This Saturday the U7’s will enjoy a blitz to be hosted by Blackhill at 10:00am. Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbours and relations, new children are always very welcome.
Seniors: The senior team were out Tuesday last, 21 June in a home fixture against Sean McDermotts. This was another tough night at the office for the team and management, despite pockets of good football from the home side they just could not pull away or get any rub of luck. A few harsh decisions and confusion over the score at half time got to the lads but in any case, they were just a step or two away from making this game count. This now leaves Toome in a likely relegation play off and a lot of work to do. The lads however, are determined not to let last year’ssuccess and determination slip away and are committed to digging in their heels and staying in intermediate football. The next match is an away fixture against a strong and determined Doohamlet side on Saturday 2nd July at 7:00pm. We will need all our Toome faithful support to get behind the team, so please be sure to come along and support the lads. #Bethe16thMan.
Reserves: The reserves played Drumhowan in the RFC Crawley Cup semi-final in Drumhowan on Tuesday night 28th June, at 8:00pm. Result in next week’s notes.
Minors: The Óglaigh Naomh Buach minors were back in action on Thursday last, 23rd June with an Impressive performance against Éire Óg. Despite the break in play and training to facilitate state exams, the lads did not look rusty at all and gave a very good account of themselves. Hopefully this can be built on and the lads can grow as a team. FT Score: Óglaigh Naomh Buach 8:17 – 1:10 Éire Óg.
The lads were out again on Monday last, 27th June with an away fixture to Sean McDermotts, this was a thrilling game with both teams giving it their all. The visitors played some exciting football and have started to gel as a team, demonstrating skill in all areas of the field with great shot selection and passing. Harry opened the scoring with a neatly taken point and Tadgh followed this up with 2 well worked points. The Seans lads were then let through a little too easily and the keeper had little chance and it was all square. Sean’s were then a little fortuitous with their next goal and suddenly despite all the hard work the lads were now 3 behind. Feral was up next with a free and this was followed up with a well worked point from play by Stephen, Fergal pulled another two fine scores back and the visitors were in front once more. Seans scored another goal from having intercepted the kickout and then another goal from some sloppy play at the back, this now put the home side in front by 5, they followed this up with their first point of the match and it was looking as if the good work in the opening 15 minutes was coming undone. However, these lads were having none of it and battled back into the game, Darren was to convert a well-placed free and Fergal followed this up with two well-earned scores from play. At this point we were back to three and nothing between the sides. Seans were up next with a fine point only for Tadgh to battle through and score a hard-earned point, Darren then pointed a free and this brought us to the interval, HT Score: 0:12 – 4:02. The visitors started the scoring in the second with another fine score from Fergal, Darren was on point again with an accurate free and it was level again, the visitors were now working tirelessly and the backs were really doing a great job. The Seans lads were able to break through once more and it was another well-placed point from them, and the home side were a score in front. The Visitors had great determination and conviction in their efforts and played out the final 20 minutes at a great tempo. Jamie was to score next having worked tirelessly, then it was Fergal who battled through once more to put the visitors ahead by one, Seans tried in vain to break through the back line but they held their own and gave nothing away, Fergal was to pull off another fine score and this now left the visitors two ahead with 5 minutes left to play. It was a tense affair with both times really going at it, however, the visitors were able to hold out and walked away as the very well-deserved winners on the night, a great match played in good spirits. Full Time Score Óglaigh Naomh Buach 0:17 – 4:03 Sean McDermotts. Scorers: Fergal 0:08 (2F), Tadgh 0:03, Darren 0:03 (3F), Harry, Stephen and Jamie 0:01. Well done to the team and management on these great
