Rockcorry were the visitors to Pairc Eanna last Friday evening and with us having gone 1-05 to 0-01 up after 20 minutes the task ahead for the visitors was made all the more difficult when they had a man sent off in the 21st minute. It was a slow burner to begin with though and the score keeper wasn’t troubled until the 7th minute when Eddie Walsh converted a free. This was followed by a good score from Danny Leegan a minute later, but a combination of wayward shooting and effective defending meant the game didn’t see another score until an Eddie Walsh free in the 15th minute. This was quickly followed by another Walsh free in the 17th minute then Danny Leegan found the net with a fierce shot in the 18th minute. Rock registered their first point of the match then, which Eddie Walsh cancelled out from a dead ball, before disaster struck for them with the red card. This left an already tough day at the office for Rock even tougher and we managed to take advantage of the numerical superiority. Further points from Darren Leegan, Ronan Grimes & Daryl Traynor (2) along with a well taken goal from the aforementioned Darren Leegan saw us in at the break 2-09 to 0-01 up. Rock have always been a battling team in any encounter down the years and they certainly didn’t lie down in the second half despite the deficit…they managed to convert two quick frees early although these were cancelled out by frees from Eddie Walsh (2) and Jack Kiernan. Any hopes of a miraculous comeback were quashed then in the 49th minute when a shot on their goal was initially saved only to rebound off the defender and back into their net. Score of the match though does go to Rockcorry when in the 49th minute a fine solo run from their half forward was finished off with an unstoppable shot that rebounded down off the crossbar, and back up into the roof of our net. Eddie Walsh converted another free in the 51st minute and the scoring was complete then when Aodhan McConnon was introduced as a late sub and hit two more points for us to leave the final score 3-15 to 1-05.
