Castleblayney Faugh’s notes week beginning 30/05/2022
Seniors Men: Our Reserves were in O’Duffy Cup action on Wednesday past as we entertained Latton at St. Mary’s Park. Latton started of very strong and were soon well on top. The visitors controlled the first half, but we managed to raise a green flag to leave a chink of light for the second half. The substitutions made in the second certainly turned the tide for us in the second half and we more than matched Latton in every department. Unfortunately we were not able to claw back the lead Latton had built up. Final score Castleblayney 1-08, Latton 3-14.
Next up are 2 away games this week, first against Ballybay on Tuesday and then Inniskeen on Friday.
Our Div3 Reserves took to the field away to Clontibret in the McKeown Cup on Sunday morning. In great conditions and on a good playing surface our unbeaten team took on Clontibret who had only lost once. We started off the strongest and Connor Ruddy raised the green flag in the 10th minute, but the hosts responded with a major of their own in the 7th minute. Martin Joyce kept the scoreboard ticking over with frees and Chris and Connor chipping in with points from play. Halftime score 1-06 each.
With being low on numbers we emptied the bench in the second half and brought on 2 substitutes. Clontibret however gained the upper hand and got a quick goal. The lads kept working hard but the hosts kept their noses in front and at one stage went 4 points up and looking like they had the winning of the game. However in a fantastic last few minutes the lads dug in deep and our subs were the winning of the game with Johnny kicking the points to level the game and Josh Conlon kicking the winning point. Final score Clontibret 2-11. Castleblayney 1-15.
A great win which sets us up to play Scotstown in the semi-final at the beginning of July. In the meantime we host Carrick in the Div3 Reserve League this coming Sunday.
U15’s: The 2nd and 3rd team say action this week before the holidays can break.
First up was the 3rd team who hosted Aughnamullen on Wednesday last. This was a great performance by the young team who have improved throughout the season. A good first half showing give them a lead they never looked like losing despite a spirited display from the visitors.
On Friday last the 2nd team visited Scotstown and held on to win by 1 point. This was the proverbial game of two halves and not for the first time this year from this team. They played some brillant football in first half to hold a good lead going into the second half and had to work very hard from a reorganised Scotstown team in the second half who pushed Blayney all the way.
All U15 teams have a break till end of June when they returned to action for the final stages of the league.
