Seniors: Our senior team played at home to Ballybay on Wednesday evening last, coming out on top in a thrilling 2-17 to 2-07 win. Points from Colin Clerkin and Jason Duffy gave Aughnamullen an early three points to no score lead, which set the tone for the remainder of the game. Further scores from Micheál Bannigan and Darren and Stephen Geoghegan ensured that the hosts went in at the break four to the good with the scoreboard sitting at 0-09 to 0-05. Ballybay made a blistering start to the second half, and within minutes the sides were level through four unanswered points from the visitors. This was to be as close as it got for Ballybay, as Aughnamullen rallied back with a flurry of points from Micheál Bannigan and a crucial goal from the boot of Colin Clerkin. Ballybay found the net to momentarily reduce the gap to four, but the lads maintained their form through to the end, replying through a point from Marty Sheridan. If Kieran Duffy’s corker into the top corner of the net was the icing on the cake, a sealing free kick from the cultured left boot of Eddie McArdle was the cherry on top. An impressive tally of 2-17 at full time, of which 2-13 was scored in open play, was just reward for the performance in what was our second win of the campaign. Our next game is away to Clontibret in the league this Saturday evening, the 2nd of July, at 7.30pm. Best of luck to the team and management. All support welcome.
