Seniors: Our senior team hosted Scotstown on Friday night last, with Scotstown winning on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-07. With the county team’s exit from the All Ireland championship, both teams were aided by the return of their county players for the first time this season. Scotstown opened up an early 5 point lead which perhaps wasn’t a true reflection on the tight nature of the opening stages. However, Aughnamullen hit back with a well taken goal by Mark McArdle and with further points from Micheál Bannigan and Kevin Sheridan the deficit was only one coming into the closing stages of the first half. Another goal from Scotstown before the break ensured they went in ahead with a 2 point lead at half time. A point from Kevin Sheridan straight from the restart brought the gap back to a single point. However, Scotstown hit a purple patch and hit six unanswered points to give themselves a comfortable advantage. The lads never gave up and were unfortunate to not score another goal to close the gap, with Scotstown’s quality finishing out the game on a high and running out 9 point winners. This was a game where the lads would have taken plenty of positives from, being tested by high quality opposition. They now play away to neighbours Latton in the sixth round of the league this Friday the 17th of June at 8pm. Best of luck to the team and management. All support welcome.
