Seniors: Our Sunday afternoon last, Sarsfield Park played host to an Aughnamullen senior league game for the first time in 26 years, with the arrival of Truagh in the season opener. In what was always going to be a stiff test, with Aughnamullen missing a number of key players and Truagh narrowly missing out in last year’s Senior Championship Final, the lads fell short on the day to an extremely strong Truagh team. A flurry of goals for the opposition mid way through the first half punished the lads and left a mountain to climb at half time. However, to credit of Aughnamullen, the boys never gave in and rallied back in the second half with some excellent scores to cut the deficit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough and Truagh ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-13 to 0-12. Positives can be taken from the game, and the lads will be looking to bounce back in the next game which is away to Carrick on Saturday the 7th of May at 7pm. Best of luck to the team and management.
Reserves: Our reserves played away to Ballybay on Wednesday evening last, where they had a great win on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-07. Aughnamullen Ladies are hosting their fundraiser “Clash of the Clanns” on May 21st at 4pm.
The idea behind this fundraiser is that each girl on the senior panel submits a family team for the competition.
Each team must consist of family members only (siblings, parents, cousins, aunts/uncles, in-laws etc) and the catch is that each team must have at least 2 non active GAA members, giving retired players a chance of redemption or to give people the chance to play who’ve never played before.
The rules of the blitz are as follows
• All participants must be Over 16
• Kick-off is at 4pm sharp and all should be wrapped up for 7pm
• 24 teams
• 4 groups with 6 teams per group
• Draws will be made a week before the blitz with each team playing 3 times in their group
• Each game will be 7 minutes a half
• Winners of each group are into the semi final, with the 2 winning teams battling it out in the final for the coveted title of Clash of the Clanns Champions and taking home the Brendan Finnegan cup.
• It will cost each team €100 to enter and additional sponsorship cards will be given out. Teams can look for a sole sponsor or fill the sponsor card. In addition to the entry fee of €100 we are seeking a Minimum €100 sponsorship per team
