St.Mellans Handball Club
Juveniles County Championships. The U13 girls was played on Monday the 24th, it was a straight final between Leah Mc Carron and Fionnuala Mohan both Mellans, Leah took the first game with great serving into the left corner 15-3, but the second Fionnuala found her range and ran into a 13-0 lead but when Leah got back in her accurate serve resumed and she won the game 15-13 to take the title, well played girls, on Tuesday night the U16 & U17 boys were played, in the Harps complex the U16 were played, Dillion O Reilly beat a Carrickmacross rep in the preliminary round, Mark Treanor lost to Eathan Mc Carron from the Harps also in a preliminary, Fergal Magee the Harps beat Adam Mc Carey and Oisin Hagan beat another Carrickmacross player to progress to the semi-final, Dillion O Reilly then beat Gerard Corrigan from Corduff to also make the semi, Oisin and Dillion took on all their games with hard hitting throughout and this probably came back to haunt them as they just ran out of steam in both semi’s and could have won them but Oisin lost to Oisin Mc Geown from the Harps and Dillion lost to Fergal Magee also the Harps, well done boys, the U17 boys were played in Tydavnet, there was a re-shuffle of fixtures due to players not fielding, and this left Peter Treanor defeating fellow Mellans player John Treanor in the semi-final, Peter went on the win the final by beating Andrew Comiskey Corduff in the final to take the U17 title, well played Peter, a steady performer always, on Wednesday night we ran the U14 boys
in Mellan’s, first to play was Ciaran Treanor were he beat Noel Murtagh Corduff, then Conor Treanor Mellan’s beat Natan Regiec from the Harps in a tight tie-breaker, Josh Cassidy played and defeated Senan Treanor St.Mellan’s, Ciaran Treanor was then back in action and beat Jake Cassidy from the Harps, and the last quarter final Calum Sherry the Harps beat Enda Mc Anenly St.Mellan’s, then Josh Cassidy defeated Conor Treanor and Calum Sherry defeated Ciaran Treanor to make it an all Harps U14 final where Calum came out victorious to claim his title, well done Calum, then to Thursday night firstly we hosted the girls U12’s, it was a full show of St.Mellan’s girls, Beibhinn Mc Cluskey defeated Alannah Campbell and then Ava Mc Kenna defeated Eimear Mc Anenly in a great game that went to a tie-breaker, Ava came out on top 15-4, 13-15, 11-1, then to the final were classmates Beibhinn and Ava faced off, this final could have went either way but Beibhinn just had the steadier serve and won it 15-6, 15-3, well done to all girls that took part and all played great in their first ever competitive outing, then the boys of the U15’s were waiting patiently to start, Cian Treanor St.Mellan’s lost to Christopher Corrigan Corduff in the first game and then Cathal Mc Carey St.Mellan’s defeated Oscarus Andrilionis from the Harps club, Shane Courtney Corduff beat Conor Mc Anenly St.Mellan’s, Dermot Mc Kenna beat fellow Mellan’s player in Colin Markey, then to the quarter finals Donnacha Mc Cluskey beat Christopher Corrigan Corduff, Cathal Mc Carey beat another Mellan’s man Daithi Mc Meel, and Shane Courtney Corduff defeated Patrick Mohan St.Mellan’s in a tight game that went to a tie-breaker 5-15, 15-7, 11-8 ,and last quarter was another all club affair where Dermot Mc Kenna beat Fhionn Connolly, the first semi again all club game that saw Donnacha defeat Cathal Mc Carey to set up an all club final after Dermot Mc Kenna beat Shane Courtney Corduff in yet another tie-breaker 11-15, 15-5, 11-10, Dermot saw off 3 game balls served at him but he stayed cool and finished off in style, probably the tougher side of the draw and the last game took a lot out of Dermot as Donnacha ran out the winner in the final 15-9, 15-5, again well done to all players for showing up and putting on some tough never “give in” games of handball, the U13 boys still have to be concluded as does the U16 boys which was due for playing Monday evening past (both results too late for going to print), a big thanks to all that took part, refereed and hosted all the games, due to the on going Covid situation it left a slightly rushed affair but never the less all was played and we hope to have a more structured plan of play for next year’s championships to give all players and coaches more time for preparation, again thanks all!!!!.
Juveniles Ulster Championship’s. For all in the club and throughout the county that won their grades get as much practice in as possible as the Ulster round of fixtures are just around the corner.
Mono League. is back inaction after last week’s disruption due to the juvenile county championships.
Adult Singles, The singles competitions for the Robert O Reilly Engineering Cup and Gola Woodworks Cup are out and will be played along side the Mono League, so it important all games are played on or before the scheduled time.
Adult Ulster Competitions. Hard luck to Dermot Boyle as he lost his Junior B singles game to Stephen Smith from Cavan, Dermot should have won the first game having a few chances at game ball but Stephen won it 21-20 and then took control of the second winning it 21-13, hard luck Dermot.
