Blackhill Emeralds Club Notes:
Our senior team manager of the past three seasons Aidan McCabe recently stepped down from the role. A Cavan native, Aidan’s relationship and understanding of our club has been of the rarest quality, indistinguishable from that of a Blackhill native. Our founder John “ The Runner “ McGough trained the Cavan senior team which defeated Kerry in the 1947 All-Ireland football final famously played in New York ‘s Polo Grounds and Aidan certainly repaid that debt winning the Packie Boylan Cup in Monaghan, Paul Kerr Cup in Omagh and two years ago last week taking Blackhill to London and winning an All-Ireland Junior Football Quarter Final. Together we shared some amazing times and the achievements of 2019 in particular will stand forever in the annals of our club’s history but more importantly as a living memory of pure and utter joy for all who were fortunate enough to experience it. We wish to publicly and sincerely thank Aidan for the class and professionalism which he brought to the role and wish him and his family every good wish in the future. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís, Slán agus beannacht Aodhán.
Club Person of 2021:
Congratulations to Anthony McCann who was a very worthy recipient of the club person of the year award for 2021.
Blackhill social centre will be open from 4pm over the holiday period starting Thursday 23rd December.
We have opened a Christmas shop in the social centre (4pm-8pm nightly). Jerseys and shorts are available to buy in most sizes with a choice between Black or green style jerseys and black or white style shorts. This shop has proved very popular so don’t delay if you want O’Neill’s official gear at a great price, stock is limited. Alternatively, the full official range of Blackhill O’Neill’s gear can be bought from the Blackhill shop page on the O’Neill’s website shorturl.at/kI138 which also allows personal customization with numbers and initials etc. Blackhill ATAK socks are available from McDermott’s Sports Monaghan. The Blackhill Story in hardback is available in the club social centre and shops locally priced €20 while club mugs and hats are also now available from the social centre.
We wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas, especially all those who have travelled home. May the light of Christ shine brightly upon us all.
Drive in bingo takes a break now over the holidays. It will return in January with a jackpot of €3750 on 50 calls.

The field is closed for repairs and maintenance and we ask that everyone respects this and stays off the pitch over the winter months.

The John “Runner” McGough track at Blackhill is open to club members. The track is floodlit and open until 9pm nightly.
The project to extend the lighting of the footpath from the bridge to Blackhill is progressing and when complete will be a welcome safety enhancement for pedestrians accessing our club and particularly the multi-purpose track.
