Scotstown GAA Club Notes. 23/11/2021
Scotstown GAA Senior Men win the Owen Ward Cup!!
Shoe City Senior Football League Final
Scotstown seniors completed the league and championship double when they beat Clontibret in the Shoe City Monaghan Senior league final under lights in St. Marys Park Castleblayney.
The teams were level on two points each after 9 minutes but Scotstown dominated the rest of the first half to lead by 1-8 to 0-4 at half time, with Gavin Mc Phillips getting the goal after 17 minutes, and points coming from Shane Carey, Matthew Maguire and Conor Mc Carthy.
Clontibret reduced the margin to five points early in the second half but that was as close as they got as Scotstown added further points, often after long periods of possession in the Clontibret half of the field. Clontibret tried to engineer some goal chances at the other end but the Scotstown defence denied them any clear chances. Scotstown led 1-11 to 0-7 at the second water break and added two more points from play in the last quarter to win on a score-line of 1-13 to 0-7.
Hard luck luck and commiserations to Clontibret O’Neills GAA. Many thanks to Castleblayney Faughs GFC for safely hosting the final at short notice.

The purpose of the Cairde na Botha initiative to raise funds for the development of Kilmore.
Cairde na Botha is a committee formed by members of Scotstown GAA who are focused on developing the Kilmore training facilities. The Kilmore training grounds which lie between the fast growing villages of Ballinode and Scotstown were purchased back in 1995 and have quickly become an essential part of our expanding community. Since then a number of development initiatives have been undertaken, including the introduction of the popular walking track and top class Prunty pitch. We want to serve the whole Parish of Tydavnet better. We want to improve the structure of Kilmore, making it a safe and inclusive community hub for people of all ages to enjoy. To do this we your help from the local
community. Please see our brochure and social media with more details and how you can support us.
Health and Wellbeing
Please keep in mind that the Covid 19 pandemic is still ongoing and to keep in mind the current restrictions. Scotstown GAA is going for the Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. This is a timely initiative for a post Covid-19 world and we look forward to the Healthy Club project in our future and recovery from the pandemic. As we head into the winter months and the football has tapered off (apart from our Senior Blues!) we will be focusing more on Healthy initiatives and will update you shortly.
Phone a Céilí & Make your Céilí
It is an encouraging development that people from one household only can visit another household. But for those who are still nervous of physical visits given the ongoing Pandemic, we can still make contact with those we care about and / or are cocooning, living alone or vulnerable. They would really appreciate a phone call, letter or card just to say “I’m thinking about you, keep safe and stay strong.” So please, Phone a Ceili, write a Letter, send a Card and keep in touch over the winter months and we are always here to help in anyway. We ask all our committee members and players to phone a ceili twice a week. If you would like a committee member or player to phone you, please contact our Chairman Shane on 086 836 7997.
