Intermediate Semi Final: On the night before Halloween Donaghmoyne produced some second half fireworks to book a place in the Intermediate Championship Final overcoming a stern test from Doohamlet. Played under lights in perfect conditions the large crowd in attendance were treated to an enthralling end to end display. Doohamlet opened the scoring on 4 minutes only for Declan Courtney to equalize on 6 minutes with a well taken point. Two quick fire scores in the 10th minute put Doohamlet 2 points up before Liam McDonald responded for the Fontenoys, another Doohamlet point left the score 0-4 to 0-2 at the water break. Two quick scores from Ronan McDonald and Davy Garland drew the side’s level but Doohamlet hit an unanswered 1-3 in a 10 minute spell to see Donaghmoyne trailing by 6. Points from Garland and Liam McDonald reduced the deficit to 4 points 1-7 to 0-6 at halftime. Donaghmoyne started the second half with renewed purpose and 3 points from Garland had the gap down to the minimum only for Doohamlet to the find the net again on 8 minutes following a misplaced free which broke to a Doohamlet forward in the box. The Fontenoys responded to this latest setback by scoring 4 points in a row from Stephen Finnegan, Declan Courtney and two from Garland to leave it all square at the water break. Doohamlet moved ahead in the 19th minute but Donaghmoyne replied with two more Garland Scores to edge in front on the 29th minute following a couple of stoppages in play. Doohamlet were now chasing the game and leaving space at the back, deep into injury time a high ball into the Doohamlet back line was fielded brilliantly by Niall Keenan who turned and drove into the Doohamlet square releasing Captain
Mickey Murnaghan who ran on to fire home the Match winning goal sparking wild celebrations from the Donaghmoyne support. Congratulations to all the players and management on such a spirited performance, focus now moves to the final in two weeks’ time against the winners of Aughnamullen and Emyvale.
Donaghmoyne Ladies: Congratulations to the Donaghmoyne ladies who secured their place in this year’s Ulster Final with a strong performance away to Carrickmore on Sunday.
U13s: There was disappointment for the U13s in the Division 1 Championship final on Saturday in Blackhill. In a repeat of the league final the young Fontenoys were facing a strong Aughnamullen side who were on course for an U13 double. Aughnamullen lived up to their favourites tag taking some excellent scores, the Donaghmoyne lads battled valiantly throughout the game but were unable to convert some good periods of possession into points on the board. This group have enjoyed a great season and have been involved in some thrilling games, well done to all the players and coaches for their efforts throughout the year they can now look forward to a short winter break before regrouping for 2022.
