Author in our midst in the form of Barney McDonald who had a story published in a new book by Cian Murphy, launched in Croke Park in recent days. Barney tells the story of playing hurling for Monaghan against Fermanagh when one of the players got an injury. The manager, also the medic,
was ministering to the injured player when a man entered the dressing room and offered to attend to the player so as to free up the manager to talk to his team. The helper was none other than the late great RTE commentator, Micheal O’Hehir who had arrived early to broadcast the football game being played after the hurling match. Barney describes how all the team watched in awe as Micheal bandaged the injured….a legendary voice turned into Medic!! A great story Barney!!
