Senior Team: Our seniors faced Aghabog in the JFC Quarter Final on Saturday last 16th October in Aghnamullen. Although the lads were a little slow to get started once they did there was no looking back, this was a very impressive performance with each man playing a vital role in this win. There were a few minor changes to the scheduled programme with Stephen Lambe replaced by Stephen McCooey, Shane Moore being replaced by Mattie O’Reilly and Cormac Quinn replaced by Ryan Murphy. The backs done a fine job throughout this game and ensured that the Aghabog attack was broken down early, once again keeper John Gorman put in another impressive shift and showed great accuracy with his delivery. The middle of the field was controlled for almost the entire game and the forwards each played their role with intelligent football and passing that produced the scores. This was a well-rounded performance by the entire team and each man gave it their all for the entire match. It was 5 minutes before the first score was chalked up and this was a free by William, Agahbog responded from play, only for James to score a beautifully taken point, he followed this up with another point following some great and determined work by Gary who laid the ball off perfectly. It was James who scored again followed by another free from William, next was a goal from Frank after an intelligent mark from Paddy who then played the quick ball to Frank who was free, once in front of the sticks it was only going in one place, this brought us to the water break and a score of 1:05 – 0:01. Aghabog came out after the short break and with can only be described as a lapse in concentration from our lads, Aghabog scored a goal against the run of play, William responded with a well taken point, Aghabog pulled another back, then it was all Toome with some good tough championship football who chalked up scores from, James from the mark, followed by Paddy off the mark, James with a fantastic score followed up by Gary with a great score from an acute angle after some great work by Mattie, Wiiliam finished the half off with another well taken free where Sean was dragged to the ground, HT score 1:11 – 1:02. It was James who came out of the blocks at the start of the second with another well taken score, Aghabog responded with a very well taken score from play, then it was Gary with another point tapped over with the left. James missed a tight goal chance with an Aghabog player hanging on to him for dear life after a clever ball in from William. John pulled off a great save from no distance on what surely should have been a goal. however, Aghabog kept on giving it their all and scored another good point from play, then it was the turn of Paddy who through some hard work and great skill with a long pass from Gary to James and a quick ball to over to Paddy produced a wonderful goal putting 12 between the sides. Liam Mccooey was up next having done a lot of work throughout this match and got his spoils, Aghabog then received a black card for tripping Mattie as he was surely on for a goal and William converted the free from just outside the box, bringing us to the second water break 2:15 – 1:04. A double substitution was made at the start of the final period with Gary and Mattie off and Cormac Quinn and Shane Moore on. William was up again to slot over a well-earned free, Aghabog pulled another back from a free only for Toome to respond with some beautiful one touch football and sublime passing of the ball, with a final ball from Ryan to Frank who went through two Aghabog players to score another well taken goal. Cormac was up next having worked the ball well up the field and an unselfish pass from James. Danny Friskey came off after a solid shift for Kevin McCooey who then produced the next score, another double substitution seen Ryan and James off after putting in some hard yards and Ciaran and Tincer come on. Aghabog scored their last point of the game from a free followed by Ciaran McCooey who having received a fisted ball from Seán spun off two players and scored the final point of the match. This was a very impressive and resilient performance by the entire team, and the backs must be commended for keeping the scores against us to only 1:06. FT score: Toome 3:19 – 1:06 Aghabog, Scorers: Frank 2:00, William 0:06 (4F), James 0:06, Paddy 1:01, Gary 0:02, Liam, Cormac, Kevin & Ciaran 0:01.
