October 12th, 2021

Senior Team: Our seniors had a well-deserved rest this week as they had a bye in the last round of the championship. It is all to play for this week as we get down to the serious end of the Championship with the knockout stages. The lads face Aghabog in the quarter final next Saturday 16th October in Aughnamullen at 4:00pm. Please ensure to let all friends, family and neighbours know to be there to give the lads support. We need your support for this fixture #BeThe16thMan. Good luck to the Team and Management.
U17s: The U17s Óglaigh Naomh Buach played  Truagh in the U17 Division 2 Cup Championship semi-final on Saturday last, 9th October. This was a very tense and exciting game to say the least, conditions were not great, and the pitch was very heavy, this did not suit or style of play but however, the lads dug in, rolled up their sleeves and gave it their all. Joey opened the scoring only for Truagh to respond, then with some great football by the three McMahons, Thomas to Tom then on to Joey for our second score and we were looking as though we were going to take control of this game. Truagh had other ideas and put their stamp on the game scoring a further 3 points and 2 goals, one from what looked like a harsh penalty decision, to no comeback from the visitors, this brought us to the water break on a score line of 0:02 – 2:04, the home side 8 points in front. This team have a good fighting spirit and showed this when they came out after the brief interval. Joey was up first with a free, followed by a tidy score from play after an exceptional bit of work from Seán, then it was Seán’s turn as he slotted home a very well taken goal to leave 3 in it. Truagh responded back with an exceptional score only for Joey to respond with a free, bringing us to the midway point on a score of 1:05 – 2:05. The lads were not playing great but were still capable of winning this game, the stand was very tense, and we were eager to see if the lads could respond in the second half. The lads came out with some grit and determination, Tom started off the scoring with a great point over the shoulder, this left just 2 points between the sides. However, Truagh responded with 3 points with no reply. Next up for the visitors was Keith McMahon, who came on as a sub and made a huge impact, Tom was up again, and we were back to just 2 points in it and the second water break 2:07 – 2:09. The next 15 minutes were going to be a very tense affair now and the visiting support got behind the lads to drive them on. Tadgh was up with a well worked score and this was followed by Kevin who deserved his score and levelled the match. Truagh went ahead after being awarded a free and now both teams were cancelling each other out with turnovers and blocks, Truagh gained another score and there was not much left on the clock now and we were two points down. These lads refused to lie down and threw everything they had at Truagh, it was the drive and determination of these lads that carried them over the line, a high ball in to the goal area was plucked from the air by the captain, he was not going to let this game slip away from them, with some good footwork it was Joey who somehow amongst the tight area scored a goal to put the lads ahead by 1 and we were headed into added time. The lads worked tirelessly and made sure they did not give the lead away, all in all this was a very tough match on a heavy pitch, these lads truly deserved this win. Congratulations to all the team and management. FT Score: Óglaigh Naomh Buach 3:09 – 2:11 Truagh, Scorers: Joey 1:05 (2F), Tom 1:01, Keith, Tadgh & Kevin 0:01. The lads will now face St Pats in the final on Saturday 30th October. The lads were taken to the Westenra Arms Hotel for a meal after the match that was kindly sponsored Padraig and Nora Hegarty, this was very much appreciated by all the team and management. We wish the lads the best of luck in their preparations for the final.
