Our U15 5a and 5b teams were successful with very strong performances in both games. Our U15 Div1 team lost out by the narrowest of margins in a thrilling contest to an excellent Scotstown team. (See report below). Well done to all teams and management on a very successful season. Our Senior men had a tense battle against Maghercloone at the weekend in the championship. Game could of went either way but in the end both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Under 15 Div. One Final: Blayney’s Under 15 side were pipped by a point in the Division One Final at Cremartin last Saturday. Played in excellent conditions this was a nail biter at the finish as Blayney nearly snapped the draw. But time run out and so they came out runners up. Blayney were dealt a body blow in the opening minute of the game when Scotstown hit the net and Blayney were playing catch up for the rest of the first half. By the first water break Scotstown had also clocked up a four point lead 1-4 to 0-3 with Blayney scores coming from Lorcan Mone, Max McGinnity and Canice Murphy. On resumption of play Max McGinnity pulled back two points but Scotstown struck again with three points on the trot. But as the game went into the last ten minutes of the first half Blayney stepped up a gear to hit 1-3 to Scotstown’s two point to leave only a point between the sides at the break with the goal coming from Canice Murphy throwing Blayney an important lifeline while the points came from Daithí Kelly, Lorcan Mone and Max McGinnity to leave the score at half time Scotstown 1-9 Blayney 1-8. On the turnaround Blayney quickly grabbed the initiative and in the opening ten minutes went in front when Max McGinnity pointed and Senan Hanratty hit the Scotstown net putting Blayney into the lead with the score standing Blayney 2-9 Scotstown 1-9. But Scotstown regrouped and quickly found their rhythm as they went on a scoring rampage to score seven points in a row and effectively close out the game. Blayney struggled to contain them and it took a some great saves by Blayney keeper John Flanagan to deny the Blues a couple of good goal chances. As the game went into the final minutes Blayney almost pulled the game out of the fire when Lorcan Mone found the Scotstown net to narrow the to narrow the gap to a single point. But Scotstown held out to claim victory on a final scoreline of Scotstown 1-16 Castleblayney 3-9.
