Blackhill Emeralds Club Notes:

Intermediate Football Championship sponsored by McElvaney’s Waste & Recycling:

Rd5 Blackhill 2-10 Corduff 1-10 Saturday October 9th

Blackhill: Shane Farrell, Ryan Courtney (C), Donál Courtney, Tomás Courtney, Gerard McArdle, James Daly, Killian Carragher, Ryan Craig, Anthony Courtney, Ciarán Courtney, Tommy Geehan, Jason Finnegan, Michael Geehan, Phillip Donnelly & Hugh Byrne. Subs Used 2nd half: Dermot Daly for R Craig, Andrew Burns for K Carragher & Paul Finnegan for J Finnegan.

A goal from Tommy Geehan in the third minute gave us the perfect start on Saturday last, Blackhill were in the ascendancy for most of the first half but were guilty of leaving some good chances behind and we turned at the break 1-5 0-5 up.The first ten minutes of the second half saw our lead stretched to 1-8 0-6 but it was now that Corduff came strongly into the game with three quick fire points and when they hit the net direct from the water break restart with an excellently executed goal from Diarmaid Marron, they took the lead 1-9 to 1-8. The second half was proper championship football all through and Blackhill responded within a minute with a goal of their own from Jason Finnegan which proved crucial in turning the tide. A one point game with ten to go, Blackhill got the final two scores of the game but were made to fight for every ball to the final whistle to get the points. Best of luck to Corduff Gaels for the rest of the season. We now play Donaghmoyne on Sunday October 24th @7 pm in St.Mary’s Park, Castleblayney in the quarter final of the competition.
