Seniors: The Senior team had an excellent victory in the Intermediate Championship on Saturday evening last when they accounted for Killanny in a pulsating and nerve wrecking game winning by 1-11 to 0-12. Credit is extended to the team who put in an outstanding shift on the day where very little separated both sides and it probably was Aughnamullen’s efficiency in front of goal proving the difference in the end.
In the first half Killanny started brightly and ran into an early 3-point lead and this lead could have been more except for some excellent defending by the home side. Gradually Aughnamullen came back more into the game with some points off their own leaving the scores level however a momentum changing score came 10 minutes before the break where a great break away move by Aughnamullen resulting in a goal leaving the half time score 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of Aughnamullen. In the second half Killanny again went back into the lead with 4 unanswered points but credit to the boys in blue they kept plugging away and eventually got into the lead which they never relinquished and ran out winners by 2 points. Next up is the Quarter Final on Saturday week against Tyholland in Castleblayney with Throw in at 7pm.
Under 17: Our U17 team bowed out of the championship on Friday evening last when they succumbed to Emyvale on a score line of 4-9 to 4-7. This was a great game throughout between 2 equally matched sides. In the first half Aughnamullen started brightly however Emyvale ability to score goals at crucial stages in the game proving decisive and at half time they lead by 2-5 to 0-5. In the second half Aughnamullen got back into the game with a quick-fire goal but again Emyvale goal threat remained and entering the final quarter led by 8,  4-7 to 2-5. However, Aughnamullen increased the ante and entering injury time went level however Emyvale scored the final 2 points of the game to emerge victorious thus ending the year for this gallant Aughnamullen side.
Many thanks are extended to the team which performed admirably throughout the year reaching both the semifinals in the league and championship and with a bit more luck could easily have reached both finals. Major thanks are extended to the management team of PJ Forde, Chris Forde, Declan Mc Geough, Colm Mc Geough which left no stone unturned in trying to achieve success. Also, many thanks are also extended to First Aid Person Rosemary Johnston.
Under 15: All Roads lead to Tyholland this Sunday morning for our U15B team in the U15 Div 5B championship Final against Truagh. The Game is fixed for 11am so all support welcome and best wishes is extended to the management team of Derek O Neill, Michael Murtagh, Dale Wilson, Joel Wilson, First Aid Linda Garrivan and the team as they aim to take home the Trophy.
U13: The U13 Division 1 side played Clontibret in Aughnamullen on Saturday last and came away with a great victory winning by 4-14 to 1-9. This was a tough battle throughout against a strong Clontibret side and it was only in the final quarter that our boys pulled away. In the first Half Aughnamullen held a slender lead 0-8 to 0-4. In the second half 2 quick goals had Aughnamullen 6 in front but back came Clontibret with a goal of their own to leave only 3 in it however a goal on the stroke of the second water break proved decisive and from that to the end Aughnamullen had control of the game running out winners. Next game is in a couple of weeks where no opposition or venue is at time of press but check social media for further details.
The U13 Division 5 team play Donaghmoyne in the Quarter Final this Saturday morning at 11am in Donaghmoyne and best wishes is extended to team and management.

Ladies Football: For the second time this year our U14 Division 1 team played Magheracloone in a county final. Aughnamullen won a free within the first minute of play to put them on the scoreboard. The girls put plenty of pressure on the Magheracloone defence but we were unlucky to have several wides. Magheracloone registered their first score in the 12th minute with a point from play. With the water break come and gone, Aughnamullen won a free, the ball was sent in high and into the back of the net. In the 25th minute Magheracloone responded with a goal, followed by their 3rd point. Aughnamullen won the kickout and buried the ball in the back of the net. As half time approached Aughnamullen added another point while Magheracloone added two to leave the half time score level at Magheracloone 1:5 to Aughnamullen  2:2The hugely entertaining exhibition of football continued in the second half as both teams served up another five goals – one from a penalty for Aughnamullen. The second water break came with three points between the teams Magheracloone 4:6 to Aughnamullen 4:3. As play resumed, we pulled ourselves back in front with a goal and two points. Magheracloone, however, pushed forward scoring 1:04. Our girls never gave up and fought to the very end, but it just wasn’t our day with the full-time whistle going in Magheracloone’s favour 5:10 to 5:5. Well done on a great year girls, what a fantastic achievement.
