Scotstown GAA Club Notes. 24/08/2021
Well done to our Under 19 Division 2 Champions
On Wednesday evening on last week, Scotstown and Castleblayney Faughs produced an epic final in Emyvale with our Blues edging the encounter by 4 points in extra time to earn the Martin Fox & Sons Under 19 Division 2 league cup. Despite going behind to an early Castleblayney goal, Scotstown bounced back to take the lead with a fine goal from Killian McKenna, before Castleblayney regained the lead with a goal from a penalty. Castleblayney’s lead lasted less than 3 minutes with a superb goal from Paul Maguire. However Castleblayney took the lead again with another goal taking it to 3-1 to 2-3. Scotstown added 4 more points to their tally taking it to 2-7 to 3-1 into half time. Scotstown maintained their advantage during the second half, however Castleblayney made a spirited comeback to take the game into extra time with a scoreline of 2-10 to 3-7. In extra time Castleblayney took the lead before a fine Darragh Murray goal took the Blues back in front. Scotstown stretched their lead further to 3 points going into half time of extra time, and another superb Killian McKenna goal took the margin 7 points. Castleblayney again made a spirited comeback with a last gasp goal before time finally ran out with the Blues winning their first silverware of 2021 with a final score of Scotstown 4-14 Castleblayney 4-10. Congratulations and well done to all our players in a brilliant performance and congratulations to the manager Cian Mohan and the Selectors David McCague; Sean Mohan and Cillian Sherry.

Health and Wellbeing
As the country opens up is encouraging to see more people out and about, (while still keeping pandemic safety in mind), whether it’s for a walk around Kilmore, training, looking forward to a summer of football and safely meeting people outdoors again and raising their emotional wellbeing. Scotstown GAA is going for the Healthy Club project which aims to help GAA clubs explore how they support the holistic health of their members and the communities they serve. This is a timely initiative for a post Covid-19 world and we look forward to the Healthy Club project in our future and recovery from the pandemic.
Phone a Ceili
It is an encouraging development that people from one household only can visit another household. But for those who are still nervous of physical visits given the ongoing Pandemic, we can still make contact with those we care about and / or are cocooning, living alone or vulnerable. They would really appreciate a phone call, letter or card just to say “I’m thinking about you, keep safe and stay strong.” So please, Phone a Ceili, write a Letter, send a Card and keep in touch over the winter months and we are always here to help in anyway. We ask all our committee members and players to phone a ceili twice a week. If you would like a committee member or player to phone you, please contact our Chairman Shane on 086 836 7997.
Confirmations in the Parish
Well done to all those who received their confirmation in Urbleshanny and St Dympna’s Churches last weekend we hope you all had a joyous day.
Our beautiful villages in the parish will be judged soon for the Tidy Towns competition. Please ensure that all areas outside your premises and dwellings are litter free and clear of all weeds. Thank you.
