Intermediate League

We made the trip to Aughnamullen last Sunday to basically decide who would top the group and take the direct route in to the league semi-final. It was a tight opening quarter with each side only registering 2 points apiece, ours coming from Danny Leegan & Eddie Walsh. Aughnamullen edged 2 points ahead after 20 mins only for Gavin Flanagan to convert a free and pull it back to 1 but again Aughnamullen converted a free of their own which was cancelled out by another Gavin Flanagan free. Eddie Walsh came alive then and hit a great point from wide on the right to level matters before a third Gavin Flanagan free from virtually the same spot each time edged us a point ahead. Just on the stroke of half-time, wing-back Kyle Connolly made a great run forward, played a give & go with his brother Dean and struck over a great point but Aughnamullen had the final say in the 1st half to send us in leading by the narrowest of margins 0-07 to 0-06. The home side came out for the 2nd half in determined fashion and its fair to say, dominated proceedings for the next 7 minutes in which they fired over 4 unanswered points to take a 0-10 to 0-07 lead and looked like setting sail for home but what happened in the next 3 minutes of the match was truly remarkable…..firstly Eddie Walsh was put through on goal and despite the keepers best efforts at a save, the ball ricocheted over the line and into the net. From the resulting kick-out the Aughnamullen defence conspired to make a mess of the clearance and the ball ended up back in the Aughnamullen net via a rebound off the hapless keeper. With the Aughnamullen defence stunned, another poor kick-out was won by Eddie Walsh who flicked it first time across the goalmouth where Gavin Flanagan was waiting to palm it into an empty net. So, from 3 points down to 6 up the game had turned on its head. The next 10 minutes saw different spells of possession but yielding no scores then some handbags broke out in out goalmouth and after some consultation between the referee and his umpire, a red card was shown to Kian Duffy. Robbie Berg was unlucky to be sacrificed for the replacement keeper Kevin Quinn but thankfully this didn’t unsettle us too much as 2 minutes later we had the ball in the back of the Aughnamullen net again with what was undoubtedly the move of the match….a short kick-out was worked up the side-line to Kyle Connolly who stepped inside his man, hit a beautiful weighted pass with the outside of his foot in to Danny Leegan, Danny turned his man leaving him for dead before firing an unstoppable laser like shot into the top corner of the net. Remarkably once again from the resulting kick-out Aughnamullen gave away possession and Gavin Flanagan was there to inflict the punishment by rattling the net once more, 5-07 to 0-10 was the score with 5 mins remaining. Aughnamullen to their credit did hit back with a couple of late points and were also

awarded a penalty in the final minute which they converted but all too late for the home side and left the final score, Aughnamullen 1-12 Killanny 5-07.

Reserve Championship

Well done to our reserve team who defeated Donaghmoyne 2-13 to 1-11 last week to qualify for the semi-final of the Championship….. goals in each half from Daire O’Shea and Danny Leegan coupled with a man-of-the-match performance from Callum Murray being the keys to our success on the night!

Reserve League Final

Our previously postponed Div 1B league Final clash with Monaghan Harps will now take place this Saturday evening 21st Aug in Drumhowan at 6.30pm – the very beat of luck lads….please give your support!!

U-17’s

Hard luck to our U-17 lads who lost out to Clontibret on Monday night 2-17 to 0-10.

U-15’s

So near yet so far was the story of the match last week as our U-15’s contested the Div 2 Cup semi-final away to Carrickmacross on Thursday evening. Having suffered a heavy defeat to them in the league meeting earlier in the season Carrick went into this semi-final as overwhelming favourites however try telling that to this bunch of lionhearted lads who battled and fought for 60+ minutes and if they’d had a little more composure on the ball and taken one or two more of the many chances they were presented with then we would surely have gotten over the line. Nonetheless a performance to be proud of…..final score 4-14 to 4-11

U-13’s

Well done to our Div 2 team who beat Tyholland on the road last weekend 5-14 to 1-09. Hard luck to our Div 6 team were beaten 6-16 to 2-09 away to Donaghmoyne.
