Intermediate League

We made it 3 from 3 in the league last Sunday as we accounted for Eire Og in Pairc Eanna. However, it was only in the final quarter when we were eventually able to shake off a stubborn Eire Og team and pull away to put some gloss on the scoreline. It was a slow burner to start with and the visitors were 0-02 to no score up after only 3 minutes but by the first water break, we had gotten back in to it and edged ahead 0-05 to 0-03, our scores coming from Daryl Traynor, Danny Leegan and Eddie Walsh (3). Eire Og converted a free after 20 mins but 2 minutes later Danny Leegan won the ball on the forty, turned on a six-pence to make a diagonal run in towards goal where he spotted Eddie Walsh on the back post, he duly fisted the ball to Eddie who made no mistake to palm it home from close range. Eire Og to their credit responded and hit the next 2 points before Conor Grimes darted forward from his corner back position to score a great point on 28 mins. Just before the interval Leego got his customary score off the left peg with a good finish from about 30 yards out to leave the half-time score 1-07 to 0-06. The next four points were shared in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, Eddie Walsh & Danny Leegan registering for us, then Michael Vernon popped up to extend our lead to 5. Eire Og pulled another back from a free on 47 mins but the killer blow for the visitors came after 49 mins, the always lively Danny Leegan playing a one-two on the 21-yard line before giving himself sight of goal and blasting the ball to the top corner. The goal was immediately followed up by 2 more Eddie Walsh scores and with 7 minutes left on the clock and the score at 2-12 to 0-09 the game was gone from Eire Og. Eddie Walsh stroked over a ’45 followed quickly by another close range free and in the final minute substitute Aodhan McConnon got on the end of an Eddie Walsh centre to fist it over the bar although no doubt had the match been tighter the goal was the more obvious target. The visitors did have the final say in the match however, pointing in injury time to leave the final score 2-15 to 0-10, but it was another good job done to leave us sitting joint top of Group 1 with our final match against Aughnamullen to decide who tops the group and advances straight into a semi-final.

Currently this match is fixed for next Sunday 15th Aug in Aughnamullen at 1pm.

Reserve League Final

Our League Final encounter with Monaghan Harps had to be postponed last weekend due to a Covid outbreak in the Harps camp – at time of writing no rescheduled date has been confirmed.

Reserve Championship

The RFC O’Duffy Cup takes centre stage this week and on Wed 11th Aug we welcome neighbours Donaghmoyne to Pairc Eanna for a 7.15pm throw-in.

U-19’s

Our U-19’s lost out at the semi-final stage last week to a more clinical Cremartin team. Hard luck lads but a good campaign, nonetheless.

U-17’s

Our U-17’s were beaten by Magheracloone last Monday evening 2-09 to 0-10. With only one match remaining in the league, unfortunately the semi-finals are now beyond our reach. However, with some excellent performances under our belt its full focus now on the Championship for these lads!
