Seniors: The senior team played the final group game of the league on Sunday afternoon last at home to Killanny, where they were beaten on a scoreline of 5-07 to 1-12. Both sides were evenly matched in the first half, with a superb 45 from Pete Dooney before the break reducing the deficit to a single point at half time. Another 45 from Dooney, a free from Tiernan Duffy and a flurry of points from Colin Clerkin within minutes of the resumption pushed Aughnamullen to a 0-10 0-07 lead early in the second half. However, 5 unanswered goals from Killanny killed the game and left the lads with an impossible task of coming back. Points from Tiernan Duffy and Mark McArdle and a penalty from Colin Clerkin weren’t enough to overturn the deficit and Killanny ran out winners. This result means that Aughnamullen finish second in the group and qualify for a league quarter final against Emyvale, which will be at home this Sunday the 22nd at 1pm. Best of luck to the team and management. The draw for the Intermediate Championship was made on Tuesday night last, where we were placed in a group alongside Donaghmoyne, Killanny, Eire Óg and Emyvale. The first game is fixed for the 29th of August away to Emyvale.
