Handball Wall! We are shortly commencing the erection of a one-wall handball court at our facilities at Emmet Park the project is fully financed and is funded by a €10,000 grant-aid received by the Emmets Handball Club from Carrickmacross Credit Union and €2,100 from the Emmets Football Development account bringing the total cost to €12,100. When completed this project will be a great benefit to the club and another asset in the progression of our plans for Emmet Park. It will be a facility of the highest standard for the use by our handball members and will also be ideal for other Gaelic related games.
300 Club Draw! The Third 300 Club Draw was on this weekend in the grounds of the Emmet Centre where Brian Duffy (26) was the lucky winner and he will be €500 better-off coming into the Christmas rush; so congratulations to him! Next out was Phillip McDermott (57) followed by Emmet committee-member Ronan Gollogly (150) The third €100 went to Ellen McKenna while long-life supporter and Honoury President Brian Hanratty (269) was the fifth name out of the drum. Last but not least; eminent journalist Frank McNally (196) now domiciled in Dublin concluded the draw which was conducted by our County Committee delegate Pauric Keenan assisted by scrutiniser Vice-Chairman Padraig McNally. Another Honoury President Terry Kiernan rattled the drum and drew the winning numbers. Thanks to all who helped and once again congratulations to all the winners.
Gerry Gartlan RIP! It is with much regret that we learned of the unexpected death of Gerry Gartlan, Cloughvalley. We extend our sympathies to his wife May and family on the loss of their beloved husband and father. Gerry was of a very pleasant nature and always had a smile in his welcome whenever you had the occasion to meet him in person. Thanks to our members who paid their respects to the late Gerry and the Gartlan family at St Josephs on Sunday.
Christmas Swim! Preparations are well advanced for the 2020 Annual Swim regardless of the current circumstances and we hope that the situation will have eased by Christmas morning! As already announced this year’s swim will be for Kurt and Axel Baldwin both of whom have a condition called Muscular Dystrophy. Display posters will be erected around the town and sponsorship cards will be available in the coming week at O’Rourke’s Fuel. We have also set up a Go-Fund-Me where people can donate on-line in conjunction with Carrickmacross Credit Union. We know that the support from the people of Carrickmacross and surrounding area and indeed further afield for the Christmas Swim will be significant as usual.
Annual General Meeting! As you already know the AGM is on Friday 27th November and will be transmitted through “Microsoft Teams” as will the County Convention. As one of the top clubs in the county; it takes a number of dedicated people to maintain and develop our facilities and resources and to appoint sub-committees etc. In particular we would welcome nominations for Chairperson, Secretary and Public Relations as these positions will be vacated. Please give consideration to filling your form and remember the closing date for nominations is Tuesday 17th November.
