Congratulations Patrick

Each year the Members of Monaghan County Council have an Awards Scheme to recognise those individuals/groups in County Monaghan who, during the previous year have excelled in different areas.

As a Club we were delighted to nominate in the Community Section a brilliant asset to our Club and area . We nominated Patrick Lennon for recognition for his works in not only 2019 but for many decades recording the activities for our Football Club and more importantly the entire community. Patrick is on hand to record either on his camera or on his video all events in the parish. Patrick has been an integral part of the operations of so many community activities as he records such valuable footage for years to come. For the GAA Club he is ever present on our hill set up to record all games which has become such an important part of our game. However, Patrick records all events in Latton -from Communions, Senior Citizen Parties, Community events, important milestones and public events you will always be sure Patrick is there. A gentleman in all aspects he goes about his work in a quiet and professional manner and has given so many Families valuable memories to treasure in years to come. Patrick is a member of the Bawn Latton Historical Society where his skills have been invaluable to this brilliant group as the research and document the past along with maintaining a record of our current activities for future generations. As a community volunteer you will not get a more worthy recipient of the award thank you Patrick for your work for our Club and the entire Community of Bawn / Latton and beyond. We were delighted that Patrick was to receive this special award on 6th April 2020 however with the onset of Covid this ceremony was cancelled. However we believe that we should honour Patrick anyway as his awards is secure to be presented at a later date . Thank you Patrick from all your friends in Latton GAA club

Sincere Sympathies

Our Sincere Condolences go to the McCabe family Drumcannon on the dad passing of Michael.A Hall of Fame inductee in 2017 Michael has a long association with the Latton O’Rahilly GAA Club . Michael Mc Cabe also affectionately known as Mickey his career starting with the Latton u-16’s a Monaghan Minor Football winning Championship medal winner with Ballybay in 1961 with other Latton payers Emmy Sullivan, John Farmer, Eamon Duffy, Mickey Lennon, Sean Duffy and Patrick Lennon. A member of the County Minor team in 1961 beating Tyrone by 4-9 to 3-4 in the opening round, Fermanagh by 2-14 to 1-6 in the Semi-Final and beating Armagh in the Ulster Final on the 23rd July in Casement Park Mickey contributing soundly in defence throughout the campaign Mickey’s abilities were quickly to make him a regular on Latton teams during the following years, reward came his way with a Brennan Cup Medal in 1966 with a serious knee injury which put an end to his playing career. The levelness and dozing of our current playing field , has often been commended by many over the years the man to that was Mickey Mc Cabe with a D4 in the mid 1970’s and also assisted with our new fiels currently being completed . A great Latton supporter all of Mickey’s sons have played and assisted the club and I know of particular pride to Mickey in 2016 was the Minor Double winning team with his son Michael Manager, Grandson Stephen Trainer and four Grandsons playing Team Captain Dylan and Conor, Adam and David.
