St. Mellans Handball:  Juvenile County Championship Finals: The juvenile county finals were held in Tydavnet on Saturday last, first in to represent the club was Leah Mc Carron in the girls U12 final, there she met Summer Finn of Corduff, this was Leah’s first ever kind of any competitive action and she certainly didn’t let the occasion get to her, Summer was just that bit too strong and had steadier serves and she won it 15-2, 15-2, never the less have no doubt Leah will be back in podium position in the very near future, next in was Aoibhinn Mc Cluskey were she took on Fiona Corrigan from Corduff, Aoibhinn just had too much for Fiona on the day and she won 15-1, 15-5 to retain her singles title, then our next representative on the day was Peter Treanor were he reached the U15 final, there he met Oran Finnegan from Carrrickmacross, Peter rushed into a 7-0 lead and looked pretty comfortable in his serving and play, Oran re-grouped and took it 15-9, the second game was even closer and both players exchanged points until the very end, and Peter almost forced a tie-breaker but it wasn’t to be as he lost 15-13, the occasion of a final definitely didn’t faze Peter anyway as he played the best game I ever saw him play and this will hopefully will give him confidence to progress even more in the future, our last player on the day was Jake Mc Geough where in the U16 final he faced Aidan Mc Geough from the Harps, the first game got away on Jake and he was struggling to get to grips with it and lost 15-3, the second game Jake started to get into the rhyme of the game and pushed Aidan all the way and he also nearly forced a tie-breaker but lost 15-11, another great display from Jake and even more remarkable after hearing he was just out of bed a few hours before hand being down with the flu, hard luck to all that didn’t win but now all know what has to be down to go one step further next year, the boys U13 final between Luke and Donnacha will hopefully be played some day this week and we have to play the U17 girls final between Clodagh Mc Meel and Louise Mc Ginnity as their game was cancelled due to slight hand injury and a lot of confusion on our behave, we will re-arrange it some night this week also, we must apologise for any inconvenience to both players and families, good luck.
