Doohamlet GFC Notes
Championship: Doohamlet 2-12 Blayney 2-15
Doohamlet bowed out of the Championship on Saturday evening last when Blayney advanced with a three point winning margin.
Doohamlet started slowly and in a fairly lacklustre first half it was Blayney who were the better team and built up a healthy lead going in at half time 1-08 to 0-04 ahead. Whatever was said in the Doohamlet dressing room at half time worked as Doohamlet emerged a different team and within the first five minutes of the half Colin Walshe now playing inside had scored 1-02 and Doohamlet were right back in the game. Blayney steadied and scored the next two points but back came Doohamlet again with Barry McGinn scoring 1-02 and Ciaran McManus firing over another fine point. In the final quarter both teams were giving their all with no quarter asked or given. During this period Blayney struck for a decisive goal but to their credit back came Doohamlet with points from Barry McBennett and Jamie Walshe to leave two points separating the sides as the clock clicked down. In a fiery last few minutes Doohamlet threw everything at Blayney looking for the winning score but Blayney held on and advanced to the next round.
Well done both teams on a thrilling encounter and we wish Blayney well in the remainder of the competition.
Doohamlet next fixture is our penultimate game in the Senior league when we have Scotstown as visitors to O’Neill Park on Sunday next. Throw in 3.30pm
