Currin Seniors

Sunday last, we played our first game in the championship in Aughamullen against Inniskeen. Unfortunately, we lost by 3 points in a competitive game. Inniskeen opened the scoring with a point from play before Jack converted a free to leave a point each. Inniskeen pushed on then scoring 5 points from play leaving us trailing 0-1 to 0-6. Jack then added 2 points from play bringing us to 0-3 to 0-6. Both teams missed scoring opportunities then before Inniskeen scored a point from play. Jack converted a free then leaving us 0-4 to 0-7. Again, Inniskeen scored a point from play before Kevin converted a free. Inniskeen finished the half stronger adding 2 points from play leaving us trailing 0-5 to 0-10 at half time.

Innskeen opened the second half with a point from play before Jack scored a point from play and converted a free. Stephen Smyth then scored a fine point from play to bring us right back in to the game at 0-8 to 0-11. However, a rare

mistake by Fergal saw the first goal of the match go to Inniskeen. Jack again converted a free before Stephen scored a cracking goal, leaving us trailing by 2 points. Ciaran McCaffrey added a nice point from play to leave game on. Inniskeen then converted a free and also scored a point from play leaving the score at 1-10-1-14. We introduced subs at this stage ; Eoin Morrow for Jason McKernan, Terry McEntee for Ronan King and Cian North for David Hynes. Inniskeen notched up 3 further points before Jack converted a free. With the game in injury time, Jack scored a goal leaving us 3 behind. Currin had a free at the dying seconds to which Jack tried his best to get through a packed goal line but ball was saved and sent outfield to the referee’s final whistle. So unfortunately, it’s the back door for us against Latton next Friday night at 8 o clock in Emyvale. Please come and out and support.

Our U11s next take on Blackhill this Saturday 31st August at 12pm in the Liam Stirrat Development League. This is an away game and coaches will be in contact with details.

This group played Killeevan last Saturday in the Div 4 Championship quarter final. After a brilliant first half performance and being up by 3 points at the break, a stronger Killeevan team came out in the second half to win the game. This ends the season for this young bunch of players however the future is bright as much of this team will still play at U13 level next year.

Our U15s who are amalgamated with Killeevan (Patrick Sarsfields) played Ballybay last Thursday evening in the Division 3 & 4 Championships Round 4 game. The final score was impressive: Ballybay Pearse Brothers(3-7) Patrick Sarsfields (7-9). Well done lads. They next play Latton on Monday 2nd September in Scotshouse at 7pm in Round 5. Please support.

Our U17s who are amalgamated with Aghabog (Patrick Emmets) played Doohamlet last Tuesday in the Div 3 & 4 Championship Round 1 game. They dominated throughout and played some great football – well done! Final score: Patrick Emmets(7-23) Doohamlet (4-10). They play again this Tuesday 27th August away in Corduff at 7:15pm in Round 2.
