St. Mellans Handball:  Irish Nationals. We had 4 players that took part in the Irish Nationals last weekend, in the U11 Boys fun competition Myles Mc Meel represented the club and was lucky enough to have his games in St.Mellans, their he faced Calum Sheery from the Harps, Liam Mc Connon Kingscourt and Zach Boshell from Co.Meath, Myles more than made his presents felt as he won 2 and only lost one game by a single point, first in he played Liam Mc Connon, as all game were on a time basis of 9 minutes this suited Myles as he was able to speed up when necessary, he won it 21-12, then in next he played Zach from Meath and he lost this one 14-15 but only just as Zach won the last 2 points on his serve in the dying seconds, in the third he beat Calum 17-7 to round of a very success morning for himself, well done Myles, John Treanor was in Armagh in the boys 15 and under B section, there he lost to Jack O Domhnaill from Galway, then he turned his attention to the plate in the Harps complex where he lost to fellow county man Aidan Cunningham from the Harps, also in the Harps Peter Treanor was playing where he was beaten by Shane Whyte from Westmeath, in Killyclogher Tyrone Aoibhinn Mc Cluskey was in the girls 15 and under B section, in the first game she beat Ellan Curran from Galway 15-1, 15-7, in the semi-final she met a very steady player in Saoirse Kelly from Waterford, in the first game Aoibhinn was winning 11-4 but let Saoirse back in where she got a bit of momentum and won it 15-12, the 2nd game was tit for tat but Aoibhinn just made too many mistakes and paid the price as she lost it 15-14, well done to all that took part as this gives you an opportunity to play people from all corners of Ireland and gives you great experience, well done, a big thanks to all that showed up to referee during the games in Mellans on Saturday, it was a long day from 9:45am til 6:30pm so thanks everyone, again a big thanks to the ever reliable Anna-Rose who provided food during the day, again compliments from all that received, thanks Anna-Rose, also a mention must go to our former club man Austin Mc Kenna who prepared the complete fixtures for the full weekends proceedings, another great job well done.
