Race Night in St. Mellans this Sat 16th Feb in aid of Knockconan NS.  Please support.

St. Mellans Handball:   Juvenile Ulster Championships. Last Sunday we had juvenile club members representing Monaghan in the Ulster Championships, the only success we had was Donnacha Mc Cluskey in the U12 boys Singles, there Donnacha played Charlie Mc Cormack from Cavan, this was a victory he won’t forget, Donnacha just couldn’t get his serve going at all in the first game and made some basic mistakes that cost him dearly as he was beaten 0-15, then after a quick break play resumed Donnacha found himself under attack again and was down 8-0 but then this is where the fight back started and he powered to victory 15-12, the tie-breaker is where Donnacha drove home and won it 15-3 to reach the Ulster Final, a brilliant achievement considering where Donnacha found himself in the early part of the game, in the U14 Doubles John Treanor & Peter Treanor played Mc Kenna & Mc Crystal from Cavan here our boys lost 15-1, 15-1, this was a very strong and experienced Cavan pair, hard luck boys, then in the U15 Boys Doubles Jake Mc Geough and Mark Deery lost to another Cavan pair of Smith & Flynn, the first game just ran away on them and the lost it 15-0, but the 2nd the boys settled and put in a fighting performance but lost it 15-10, these Cavan outfits have the experience and are playing longer together, so this is something we will have to work on for next year, hard luck boys, the U17 Doubles of Ronan Boyle & Ryan Harnet had their game against Down opposition postponed and they have home advantage some day this week, good luck boys.
County Minor Final. Congratulations to Niall Mc Kenna as he won the County Minor final last weekend in Carrickmacross where he defeated Jordan Mc Garrell from Corduff, Niall had to go the whole in a 3 game tie-breaker, the first game was tight enough but he nipped it 21-17, the 2nd got away on him and he lost 7-21, but in the tie-breaker he stamped his authority and took it and the title 21-14, well done Niall.
Adult County Championships. Good luck to our club member in the pursuit of county glory in the championships, in the U21’s Gary Mc Kenna (D) plays Jamie King from Corduff in the semi-final time and venue TBC, in the Novice “B” Emmet O Neill plays Mathew Sweeney from The Harps, in the Novice “A” competition we are guaranteed a winners as Darrin O Reilly is waiting in the final for either Kevin Treanor or David O Reilly, in the Junior Section Fergal O Neill plays Stephen Shannahan from Bawn in the semi-final and in the Intermediate Section Christopher Mc Kenna (PJ) lost his semi-final to Gary Mc Elroy from Bawn.
Adult Club Singles. The Club Adult singles semi-finals are fixed for this Friday evening, Div 1 Fergal O Neill vs Joe Kelly and Christopher Mc Kenna (PJ) vs Ian Treanor, Div 2 David O Reilly vs Declan Mc Kenna or Pat Mc Quaid and Emmet O Neill vs Karl Mc Meel, good luck to all, the doubles will follow shortly.
