Irish National Wallball Titles for Aidan McGeough & Paul Cassidy
Handballers from all over the country descended on Breaffy House Hotel & Resort for the Irish Wallball Nationals and Monaghan had their fair share of handballers in action. Saturday morning the B13&U Sean Callan & Aidan McGeough got competitions going followed by Louise McGinnity in the G15&U and Aidan Cunningham in the B15&U. Later in the day Eoghan McGinnity took to the court in the B17&U and gave a display for any young player to watch.
Sunday morning the 11&U Boys & Girls played their groups with the Harps represented by Ryan McGeough & James Cunningham Josh & Jake Cassidy and Emily McGinnity paired with Katie Jordan (Kilkenny) there was some great strokes shown by all players.
That afternoon quarter and semi-finals where played with Sean Callan going out to Cormac Finn (Sligo) in a hard fought battle in B13&U singles, Louise progressed to the semi-final of the G15&U only to loose out in a fantastic game to Sadhbh NíFhíaithearta (Galway). Aidan Cunningham was paired with Jack O`Dómhnaill (Galway) in the B15&U Doubles the pairing won their quarter-final game with some terrific shots only to loose out in their semi-final to strong Sligo/Galway pairing.
B13&U Doubles Irish WallBall National Title
Aidan McGeough (Monaghan) & Ewan Hynes (Galway) took to court 5 in the B13&U Doubles. There first game was tight winning 12-9 but as they moved into their second the pairing found form with Aidan serving hard and killing the ball well and Ewan showing great composure winning easily 20-4 to a Tyrone/Galway pairing. In the semi final they met a formidably Galway/Kilkenny pairing but McGeough/Hynes where determined not to fail taking out the opposition 17-5 in a game that Aidan/Ewan showed great kill shots serving and returning of the ball. The final was a tough draw seeing a pairing of Dara O`Leary (Galway) / Noah Bourke (Kilkenny) meet the Monaghan/Galway duo. The game started as expected point for point with nothing between the pairings with Bourke keeping Aidan/Ewan under pressure, but in the 7th minute McGeough stepped up to another gear pulling off a kill shot to end the Galway/Kilkenny serve. Aidan served taking two points without answer only to loose service, Ewan took serve dropping the ball deep in the court to be returned only for Aidan to finish the game 13-10 with a kill shot.
Emerald Masters Irish WallBall National Title
Paul Cassidy (Tydavnet) played Pete Larkin (Emyvale) Sunday evening in the semi final of the Emerald Masters with Paul taking the points on this occasion in a hard fought game to advance to the final Monday to play Brian Haven in the final. The final was always going to be tough but on this occasion Paul`s shots was the difference with Paul taking the final 27-5 in the end.
