County Handball Notes 5/2/18

Ulster 40×20 Finals
There was a packed house in Saval Co.Down last Saturday for the Ulster 40×20 handball finals and the crowd were not dissapointed with the display of skill shown by our Monaghan representatives.
Monaghan Harps claimed two new Ulster titles with Louise Mc Ginnity taking the under15 singles and Eoghan Mc Ginnity easily winning the under16 singles.
Louise was outstanding against her Donegal opponent winning with her hard serves throughout a one-sided match.
Eoghan faced a tricky Tyrone opponent, Cahir Monroe. The pair had recently met in a tough Ulster colleges final. However on this occasion the Monaghan player took control early and continued to dominate with perfect serves and accurate kills. Eoghan won in two straight games.
Good luck to both Louise and Eoghan in the All-Ireland series.
Seán Callan’s final will be played in Monaghan this week with the distinct possibility of adding a third Ulster title.
There were excellent, though unsuccessful, performances from Tiarnán and Deivydas in under16 doubles. They went close losing 21-18, 21-17.
Emily Mc Ginnity shocked many by bringing her Tyrone opponent to a tie-break in under12 singles.
Our under14 doubles pairing of Ailandas Jocys and Nedas Guoga only lost by 15-13, 15-13.
Matas Sakalauskas put on a brave performance in the U12singles against top player Ruairi Mc Cullough . The scores were 15-5, 15-6.
In the U12doubles Fergal Magee and Oisín Mc Geown met two strong Tyrone players but both played very well.
Monaghan`s Padraig Treanor(Mellans) & Ben McGeough(Bawn) in the Boys U15doubles met a strong Tyrone pairing but put up a fine display
Girls U13-S Aoibhinn Mc Cluskey game is to refixed. In Armagh the U14 Girls doubles final Keva Treanor & Sarah Mc Kenna played Mac Namee & Fox from Tyrone, the Tyrone pair proved too strong 15-0, 15-0, U16 Girls doubles Eithne Boyle & Sarah Lavery played a strong Murphy & M Kervey (Down) loosing 21-3 & 21-9.
Thank you to those who volunteered to help with transporting the players to Saval and a big thank you to the coaches for their encouragement.
