February 8th, 2018

Wednesday last 5th Feb. was Seamie Bell’s Birthday. He is 36. Seamie should be taking fitness classes in Aughnamullen, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross or Killanny. In normal circumstances we would expect him to finish up early and head off for a pint and a game of pool to celebrate his birthday before heading home to his partner Edel and their twin baby girls of four months. Unfortunately circumstances are anything but normal for Seamie or his family. In fact he is not aware that it was his birthday, nor is he aware of anything going on around him as he lies in a coma in the Beaumont hospital in Dublin.

Seamie was the victim of an unprovoked blow to his head on the main street of Carrickmacross some two weeks ago on the very night he was celebrating the christening of his twin girls. He remains in a critical non responsive condition ever since. He was a happy go lucky character. He lived his life on a day to day basis never having the luxury of being able to put money aside for a rainy day. Unfortunately the rainy day has arrived much too soon and his many friends from his fitness classes in Aughnamullen, Definitions Castleblayney, Phoenix Centre Carrickmacross and the many GAA Clubs he was associated with as a player and physio, most notably Eire Og, Monaghan Harps, Castleblayney , have all expressed a wish to set up a fund to support his partner Edel and their twin baby girls Cara and Ava together with his six year old son Raphael. Seamie has also hundreds of friends in soccer and rugby circles in Monaghan town and further afield and also in pool, snooker and darts circles and we have no doubt that they will all respond positively to this funding appeal.
