Results: The U15s produced a performance full of grit and determination against Monaghan Harps to clinch the division 1 championship after extra time in Drumhowan on Tuesday evening. The opening exchanges of the game saw chances hard to come by with both defenses on top. With twenty five minutes gone the Harps scored a goal to open up a 3 point gap but Donaghmoyne responded with the next two points to leave the score 1-5 to 7 points at the interval. Donaghmoyne reorganized at the break and started to dominate the exchanges in the second half, a Gerry Finnegan goal put the Fontenoys ahead and but for some wayward finishing the game could have been closed out in 60 minutes, but the Harps team weren’t finished and responded to tie the match at 1-9 apiece. Extra time beckoned and the Donaghmoyne lads rose to the challenge scoring 1-6 to 3 points in the additional time, the goal coming from a well taken penalty from Mathew Marron. Well done to the players and management on achieving the first part of a potential double with the league final coming up next week. Donaghmoyne team: Darragh Watters, Shane Markey, Liam Martin, Ciaran Murray, Eoghan McEneaney, Ciaran Finnegan, Christopher Collier, Brendan Keenan, Gavin McSkeane (0-1),Hugh Murnaghan (Captain 0-7),Mathew Marron (1-4),Eric Coleman (0-1),Luke Lynch,Gerry Finnegan (1-1), Kyle Finnegan (0-1). Subs Rian Kavanagh for Shane Markey, Dean Martin for Luke Lynch, Shane Finnegan. U13s: There was disappointment for Donaghmoyne in the division 5 cup against Castleblayney on Friday in Blackhill. Donaghmoyne playing against a strong wind were trailing by 9 points after ten minutes but responded well and hit two goals to narrow the gap and went in at the break trailing by 6 points but very much in the game. The Fontenoys had the wind at their backs in the second half and were piling the pressure on the Faughs goal but were unable to convert the pressure into scores, eventually the scores started to come and with the game entering the final minutes there was only a point separating the sides, unfortunately in a similar fashion to the Monaghan senior squad the final whistle came before an equalizer could be fashioned and blayney claimed the title. Hard Luck Lads but congratulations on a great league campaign. U17s: The U17s recorded a comfortable victory over Killanny on Sunday morning in Division 1.
Intermediate Championship: Donaghmoyne advanced into the quarter finals of the McElvaney Waste & Recycling championship with a 3 point win over Doohamlet. Donaghmoyne started well with points from Darren McElroy, Davy Garland and Stephen Finnegan and were leading by two points after 10 minutes. Indecision in the Fontenoys back line allowed Doohamlet to snatch a goal but Donaghmoyne responded with points from Aaron Courtney and Davy Garland before Stephen Finnegan found the back of the net following a strong run into the Doohamlet box from Aaron Courtney. Donaghmoyne lead by 4 points at the interval and extended the lead to 6 with two more Garland Points. A Doohamlet goal narrowed the gap and a late period of Doohamlet pressure saw the sides tied with time almost up, the Fontenoys responded with 3 more points from Garland, Finnegan and McCahey to seal the game and progress into the next round.
