Residual prizes: €100 Brendan Naughton c/o Dermot Coyle; €40 Rose Donnelly c/o Paddy Donnelly; €40 Mary Galligan c/o Clubhouse; €40 Gráinne & Owen Connell (direct debit) c/o Owen Connell. Jackpot for Sunday, November 10 is €4,300 and Monica and Paudge Connolly are on duty. Lotto draw takes place in our clubhouse every Sunday night. All welcome. Thanks to everyone for their support for our Lotto, which has now played a critical role in our club’s funding for 25 years.

Seniors: We lost out to Donaghmoyne in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Final last Sunday in Drumhowan. Failure to turn possession into scores proved to be a large part of our downfall in this game, while Donaghmoyne were much more clinical at the other end. Donaghmoyne had 2-3 on the scoreboard by the time Éimhín Morahan and Shane McMahon got our only two points of a frustrating opening half. Shane McMahon added a brace of scores during the third quarter, but the second half would ultimately follow a similar pattern to the first, with several attempts at goals coming to nothing, including an excellent penalty save by the Donaghmoyne keeper. We eventually did find the net late on through Neil McAdam, but this was never going to be enough to turn things around as Donaghmoyne ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-4. Thanks to all our players and management – led by Paddy Kelly, Steven Creighan and Ryan Mellon – for their efforts throughout 2019.

Team and scorers: Gary White; Thomas Croarkin, Nicholas Scott, Kevin Loughran; Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh, Conor Galligan, Dean Fanning; Stephen Driver, Aodhán Óg McAnespie (Capt.); Éimhín Morahan (0-1f), Neil McAdam (1-0), Shane McMahon (0-3); Conor McCrystal, Shane Smyth, Lochlainn Power.

Subs: Oisín Fagan for Power (37 mins), Conor Duffy for Croarkin (42), Nathan O’Donoghue for McCrystal, Dylan McKenna for Morahan (both 54), Niall Greenan for Fanning (57).

Breakfast morning: We ran a breakfast morning last Sunday in McConnon’s shop, Old Cross Square. Sincere thanks to the club members who helped out, everyone who attended and to Jim and all at McConnon’s.

Scór concert: Please keep free this Sunday, November 10 at 7pm for our Scór concert in the clubhouse. All our competitors from the recent Scór na bPáistí and our representatives in Scór na nÓg, which takes place on November 16 in Tyholland Community Centre, will provide entertainment on the night. We would like to encourage club members to come along for a good night in our clubhouse.

Elaine Tate: Elaine Tate is a primary-school teacher from Rockcorry. Married to Anthony, with three children – Ava (13), Patrick (11) and Fionn (8) – Elaine was diagnosed in 2014 with Stage 4 Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer). Surgery and ongoing chemotherapy were required to keep the cancer stable. Unfortunately, in July 2019, Elaine took a rare reaction to one of the chemo medications leading to paralysis from the waist down. She is now confined to a wheelchair. Monaghan will play Cavan in Clones on December 1, with any monies raised going toward much-needed adaptations to Elaine’s home to give her more independence on her road to recovery. Tickets can be purchased from Dónal Sherry (086 2336159) and the club would like to encourage members to support this worthy cause.

Schools: Good luck to all club players currently preparing for schools competitions, particularly those involved with St. Macartan’s College in today’s Corn na nÓg quarter-final and in the upcoming MacRory Cup campaign.

Clubhouse: The Monaghan Harps clubhouse is available to book for functions. Please contact Paudge Connolly on 085 8589135 or Rose Donnelly on 086 0825782 for more information. Anyone looking to book the clubhouse for meetings, functions, etc. is asked to please give a week’s notice for convenience.

Hurling:

Last Man Standing Competition: Week four of the competition was complete following Sunday’s English Premier League fixtures. The magic number of entrants continues to decrease following losses for Manchester United and West Ham, with draws for the North London clubs also proving costly. Proceeding into week five, we have only 30 entrants remaining. Check our social media accounts for further updates.

Ladies: Monaghan Harps Ladies hold their AGM this Saturday, November 9, at 7pm in the clubhouse. Everyone welcome.
